Atmore police officers talk with James Hayes, 32, the driver of this Ford Freestyle that ran off the south lane of North Main Street, skimmed a tree and overturned just short of Oak Hill Cemetery around 6 a.m., Tuesday, May 9. Hayes, whose shirt was soaked with blood from a gash to the top of his head but refused medical treatment, indicated that he must have fallen asleep as he went into the road’s bend. According to preliminary police reports, the Atmore man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving while license is suspended.
