Uriah man charged in Atmore thefts

Moye

A Uriah man was arrested last week and charged with committing at least three thefts that took place recently in the Atmore area.

Escambia Co. Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Mike Lambert reported that deputies responded to three different theft reports, including those in which a utility trailer, dump trailer and a boat were stolen.

During the early stages of the investigation, deputies received information that the stolen items might possibly be located at a Weaver Road address in Uriah, a site that is just in the edge of Baldwin County, near the Escambia County line.

ECSO deputies, accompanied by Baldwin County lawmen, went to that location, where they discovered a 2012 aluminum bass boat and several utility trailers, along with a dump trailer. A check of the Vehicle Identification Numbers on each item indicated that they had been reported stolen from locations in Escambia County.

Canyon Duff Moye, 21, was identified as the suspect in the thefts. Moye’s mother told deputies that her son had just left the residence but he was later located at an undisclosed site in Baldwin County and taken into custody without incident.

Moye, who is charged with first-degree burglary, was released after a $22,500 bond was posted on his behalf.

The case is still under investigation and sheriff’s investigators ask that anyone having any further information related to the suspect or the thefts call (251) 809-2154 or contact the sheriff’s office online at escambiacountysheriffal.org.
