Mae Bell Jeter
Mrs. Mae Bell Jeter, age 100, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at her home in Uriah, Ala. She was a native of Conecuh County and resided in Uriah all her married life. She was a long- time member of Mineola Baptist Church of Uriah.

She is preceded in death by her husband of forty-seven years, John Henry Jeter; her son, James H. Jeter and her granddaughter, Amy Jeter Whitehead.

Mrs. Jeter is survived by three daughters, Lorane (Robert) Kirchharr of Uriah, Ima Ree (Murray) Ellison of Atmore, Ala. and Linda (Jimmy) Morrison of Tallassee, Ala.; daughter-in-law, Ila Jeter of Mexia, Ala.; eight grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 7, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Mineola Baptist Church with Rev. Henry Wilson and Rev. Mark Whittington officiating. Burial followed in Mineola Cemetery.

The family received friends Friday, April 7, 2017 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Marshall N. Shaver
Mr. Marshall “Mo” N. Shaver, age 36, of Orange Beach, Ala., passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017.

Memorial services were held Friday, April 14, 2017 from Orange Beach United Methodist Church.

Kathryn Wilson Vinson
Mrs. Kathryn Wilson Vinson, age 56, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 in Mobile, Ala. She was a native of Bay Minette, Ala. and has resided in Perdido, Ala. for the past fifteen years. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dixon and Christine Wilson.

Mrs. Vinson is survived by her husband of forty years, Kevin Vinson of Perdido; two sons, Kevin (Cloi) Vinson, Jr. of Phillipsville, Ala. and Joshua Vinson of Dyas, Ala.; one daughter, Jodi Rolin of Phillipsville; very special friend, Paul Godwin of Phillipsville; one brother, James Wilson of Montgomery, Ala.; one sister, Carol Simmons of Montgomery; six grandchildren, Haley Vinson, Lane Vinson, Lina Vinson, Leigh Ann Vinson, Madyson Rolin and Peyton Rolin and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 17, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Malcolm Harrelson officiating. Burial followed at the Pine Grove Cemetery.

The family received friends Sunday, April 16, 2017 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Sammy Southard, Brenton Dorough, Wesley Edwards, Joey Welch, Jay Roberts, Jake Barnett, Gene White and Michael White.

Bentley Lane McGhee
Master Bentley Lane McGhee, 3 months old, passed way Tuesday, April 11, 2017 in Atmore, Ala. He was born in Bay Minette, Ala. to Russell and Holly Mills McGhee.

He is survived by his parents, Russell and Holly Mills McGhee of Atmore; brothers, Braylon McGhee, Brylon McGhee and Brantley McGhee; grandparents, Russell and Jeanette McGhee and Lindy Mills Hawsey; aunts and uncles, Shonda (Eric) Strehl, Virginia (Barry) Radford, Hayley (Stoney Mason) Hawsey, Hillary (Kenneth McIlwain) Griffis, Justin (Stephanie Hines) McGhee, Scott (Felicia) Overton, Billy (Ashley Schmidt) Griffis, Stephen (Tori McRae) Hawsey; cousins, Shayna, Canaan, Tabitha, Ariana, Andrea, Cierra, Shayla, Aleigha, Daniel, Jordan, Aiyana, Aaliyah, Alianna, Ashlynn, Zayden, Kaya, Max, other family and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 17, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Mitch Herring officiating. Interment followed in New Home Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Eric Strehl and Barry Radford.

The family received friends Monday, April 17, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. until service time at 11:30 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Joseph Howard Gohagin
Mr. Joseph Howard Gohagin, age 81, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, April 14, 2017 in Atmore. He was a carpenter for many years and retired after fourteen years of service with Fluor Daniel Construction as a foreman. He was born in Atmore to the late Joseph Richard and Mattie Lucille McKinley Gohagin. He was of Baptist faith and attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Also he was an avid Alabama Fan and fishermen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Tami Karen Gohagin; a son, James Terrell Gohagin; brothers, Buford Gohagin and Rayford Gohagin.

Mr. Gohagin is survived by his wife, Doris Louise Taylor Gohagin and one son, Dauphin (Rita) Gohagin all of Atmore; two grandchildren, Keith (Ashley) Gohagin of Fairford, Ala., Grant Gohagin of Atmore; two brothers, Carlos (Fay) Gohagin and Milford (Darlene) Gohagin, all of Atmore; six great-grandchildren, Macy Byrd, Mallie Byrd, Brody Selzer, Jayce Gohagin, Roper Peacock, Bristol Caroline Peacock.

Graveside services were held Monday, April 17, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. in McCullough Cemetery with Bro. Mark Peacock officiating. Interment followed in McCullough Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Wayne Fayard, Keith Gohagin, Grant Gohagin, Louis Tharp, Larry Gohagan and Tim Godwin.

Linda Blackburn Ward
Mrs. Linda Blackburn Ward, age 64, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017 in Atmore. She worked as a Dental Hygienist, Cosmetologist, teacher aid at A.C. Moore Elementary, and a Supervisor for Touch 1. She was born in Atmore to the late Jack and Betty Stacey Blackburn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Billy Blackburn and a step-brother, Jonny Blackburn.

Mrs. Ward is survived by her husband, Wayne Ward of Atmore; two daughters, Shelley Turner of Atmore and Stacey (Jon) Guyton of Opelika, Ala.; two brothers, Donnie Blackburn of Little River, Ala. and Larry Blackburn of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; two sisters, Jean Allred of Prattville, Ala. and Brenda Sanders of Pensacola, Fla.; six grandchildren, Dezarae, Chelsey, Emily, Carson, Trace and Olivia.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 4 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Floyd Harris and Bro. Scott Armstrong officiating.

Donald F. Sprague
Mr. Donald F. Sprague, age 87, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Atmore Community Hospital.

Mr. Sprague is survived by his caregiver, Theresa McMorris of Atmore.

There will be no funeral service.

Helen Jean Askew
Mrs. Helen Jean Askew, age 81, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Atmore Community Hospital. She was born in to the late Calvin and Dannie Grissett.

She was a 1951 graduate of Escambia County Training School and later graduated from North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, N.C. with her B.S. in Business Administration. While attending A&T she became a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc, Gamma Chapter in 1953.

She worked for several years as the secretary at Escambia County Training School before becoming employed with Alabama Power Co in Atmore where she worked as a Senior Customer Service Representative until her retirement in 1996. She was a member of Harris Street AOH Church of God where she served as Superintendent of Sunday School, the Mother’s Board, Coordinator of The 100 Women in Black Program (for over 10 years), and she took children of the church to Annual Church Conventions.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, James M. Askew; daughter, Myrana (Anne) McGinnis; three brothers, Arthur, Calvin, Jr., and John Grissett; two sisters, Cora Nettles and Margie McPherson.

Mrs. Askew is survived by three daughters, Rita Bullard, Yolanda (Jerome) Webster all of Atmore and Jameshia (Michael) Sibley of Montgomery, Ala.; two sons, Charles (Barbara) McGinnis of Foley, Ala. and John (Wanda) Biggs, Sr. of Peterman, Ala.; one brother, Willie J. (Glender) Grissett of Atmore; one sister, Catherine Campbell of Jacksonville, Fla.; twenty-five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. John Biggs, Sr., eulogist, Bishop Q. Mitchell, officiating and Rev. Isaac Bradley, host Pastor. Interment followed in Stallworth Cemetery.
