United Bank announced it will again offer free tax preparation and filing assistance to residents across its footprint as part of the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program or VITA. VITA sites will be available at the bank’s Atmore, Foley and Frisco City locations through April 14, with services available to individuals and families with total 2016 incomes of $54,000 or less. In its fifth year, United Bank has assisted with more than 400 returns since 2011.
“As a community bank, we feel a personal responsibility to focus on the needs of the businesses and the families of the communities we serve. It is an honor to commit our staff and resources to assist residents in our communities with their annual tax filing” said Bob Jones, President and CEO of United Bank. “I am proud United Bank is able to once again reach out and offer VITA services.”
Tax assistance will be available in Atmore, Foley and Frisco City by appointment only. For those making less than $64,000, United Bank is also sponsoring free tax assistance from home at www.myfreetaxes.com. Clients using the web service should follow the links to “file for free” once the page loads to create a user id and password.
Residents seeking assistance for 2016 filing are encouraged to make an appointment by calling 251-446-6000. Taxpayers must provide a social security card for each person on their return as well as any W-2s, 1099s or other relevant income or interest statements and last year’s tax return.
