Ronnie Lamar Hayes
Mr. Ronnie Lamar Hayes, age 60, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in Milton, Fla. He was a native of Greenville, Ala. and a resident of Century, Fla. for most of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was an avid fisherman and helped others in need.

He was a member of the New Life Fellowship Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Velma Louise Glover; aunt, Margaret Jones and first cousin, Ilene Cook.

Mr. Hayes is survived by his mother and step-father, Velma Aline and Willie Morris Covan of Century; two brothers, Radford Covan of Pace, Fla. and Randy Covan of Brewton, Ala.; one sister, Recindia McCormick of Milton, Fla. and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Lavon Caraway officiating. Burial followed at Providence Methodist Cemetery in Georgiana, Ala.

The family receive friends Friday, January 20, 2017 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Joyce Cotton
Mrs. Joyce Cotton, age 77, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born to the late Ernest and Florence Caraway Green.

She was a member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking and baking. She was known for her signature dumplings and mashed potatoes. She enjoyed mowing and landscaping along with fishing with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, James Colvin, Eugene and L.C. Green.

Mrs. Cotton, she is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, David Sr.; children, John Cotton Jr. (Gail), Jennifer Woodfin (Walt) and Julie Miller (Chad); grandchildren, Jonathan Cotton (Karmen), Allison Woodfin, Raeleigh Woodfin, Stewart Woodfin, John Edward Miller, Ansley Miller, Zoe Angus, Daizee Angus; great-grand-daughter, Kayley Cotton and sister Bernice Smith (Clifton).

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 10 a.m. from Walnut Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Ted Bridges officiating. Burial followed in the Walnut Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family received friends Friday, January 20, 2017 from 6 until 8 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

 James Madison Smith
Mr. James Madison Smith, age 98, of Booneville, Ala., passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in Atmore, Ala. He was a farmer, born in Morvin, Ala. to the late Harry Barron and Eunice Daisy Pugh Smith.

He was a member of the Huxford Masonic Lodge #779.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Mae Stafford Smith; siblings, Coleman Smith, W.B. Smith, Josephine Brogdon, Earlene Thomas, Irene Sanspree and Eunice Sizgorich.

Mr. Smith is survived by one son, John Madison (Glennis) Smith of Booneville; three daughters, Frona (Albert Jr.) Venetia of Booneville, Annie Diann (Hooper) Matthews, III of Atmore, Ala., Cynthia (Bryant) McPherson of Peterman, Ala.; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Friday, January 20, 2017 at 11 a.m. in Booneville Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. David Atchinson officiating.

Active pallbearers were Keith Smith, Richard Burgess, Joe Swain, Rusty Lassitter, Tom Dawson and Mark Burgess.

Honorary pallbearers were Bruce Akins, Tom Frazier, J.P. Pipkin and Jimmy Pipkin.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Booneville Baptist Church.

Shirley Jean Barnhill
Mrs. Shirley Jean Barnhill, age 79, passed away Friday, January 20, 2017 in Atmore, Ala. She was a native of Flomaton, Ala. and a resident of Atmore most of her life.

She attended the Gospel Light Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Iva White; brother, James “Peanut” White and step-son, Roger Barnhill.

Mrs. Barnhill is survived by her husband, Dillard Barnhill of Atmore; two sons, Ronald “Rocky” Barnhill of Stockton, Ala. and Michael “Mike” W. Barnhill of Atmore; three daughters, Melissa (Philip) Ellis of Flomaton, Terri (Scott) Watkins of Atmore and Madonna Barnhill of Mobile, Ala.; one sister, Carol “Pug” Brantley of Flomaton; seven grandchildren, Kelly, Mickey, Jonathan, Tiffani, Ashley, Jessica and Dustin and five great-grandsons, Karson, Kaicen, Kannon, Kendall and Tait.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Gospel Light Church with Rev. Martin Gehman officiating. Burial followed at the Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family received friends Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at Gospel Light Church.

Pallbearers  were David Gehman, Jerry Gehman, Kenneth Barnhill, Ricky Gibson, Clay Gibson and Clarence Rolin.
