The Walk continues
Women of Distinction held their annual cancer awareness walk – A Walk to the Park – Saturday, October 14. Opening ceremonies were at Atmore City Hall. The walk ended at Houston Avery Park. Proceeds are used to provide gas cards to assist local cancer patients with travel expenses for treatment. Shown is this year’s group of walkers.  
Ribs on Ridgeley
Put together some long tables down the middle of a street, serve some ribs by South Alabama Vending and homemade pies by Myrna Monroe and you’ve got the recipe for a fund-raising success. Gaines Chapel hosts annual conference
A local congregation was host to their denomination’s annual conference last week. Gaines Chapel AME Church Pastor Rev. First bale
Father and son Larry and Justin House brought in the first bale of cotton this year at Frank Currie Gin in McCullough. Gin Manager Ron Bailey, right, continued his tradition of presenting a check to the farmer who brings in the first bale. The check was presented Wednesday, October 11 for the bale that was brought in October 2. Justin House accepted the check.
