Cars began lining up outside Rachel Patterson Elementary School around 6:30 a.m. last Saturday, May 30, as drivers waited to receive boxes of free groceries. Estimates are that more than 600 cars pulled through the school driveway for a share of the 17,000 pounds of food distributed through a donation to Feeding the Gulf Coast. In June 2019, West Escambia Utilities manager Kenny Smith announced the utility company had purchased Helton Service Center on Ridgeley Street and would move their operation to a new headquarters. But first, the old building was to be demolished. That was done last week.
