Several members of the Escambia County High School Band had an opportunity to shine Wednesday evening, October 30. And shine they did.
The occasion was The African Methodist Episcopal, Ninth Episcopal District, Fifteenth Session of the Southwest Alabama Annual Conference. Held at Gaines Chapel AME Church on Carver Avenue in Atmore, the Conference began October 29 and concluded October 31.
On Wednesday night, the ECHS Band played two selections during the evening service – “Let Us Break Bread Together” and “Procession of the Levites.” The congregation showed their appreciation with their applause and, as the band members filed out after their selections, several in the congregation commented to them.
The band was under the direction of D.K. Grissett, who returned to ECHS this year to lead the band program.
Grissett actually did double duty that evening. The organist who was scheduled to play was stuck on the interstate. Grissett stepped in to accompany the congregational singing and special selections.
Pastors participating in Wednesday’s program were from Fulton, Atmore, Little River, Whatley, Camden District, Uniontown, and Mobile.
Bishop Julius H. McAllister Jr. is the Presiding Prelate, 9th Episcopal District.
Gaines Chapel AME pastor is the Rev. Cletis Walker.
