Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested an Atmore man January 24 on several charges, including distribution of a controlled substance.
No details were provided, but Escambia County Detention Center records show that Damien Tynell Jenkins, 45, remained in the facility Friday afternoon, January 26.
He is being held on one count each of trafficking in an unspecified controlled substance, a Class A felony, and possession of an unspecified controlled substance, a Class C felony. He is also charged with one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and bail jumping.
A conviction on a trafficking charge could result in a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years, each day of which must be served, up to a maximum sentence of 99 years (life).
The only other felony arrest of a local person by area authorities during the period January 21-26 occurred January 21, when Escambia County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 45-year-old Philip Edward Turner of Atmore.
Turner, who is charged with one count of felony battery, was released January 22 from the Escambia County Jail after a $10,000 bond was posted on his behalf.
No details of the arrest were available, but Florida Criminal Statutes include that felony battery occurs when a person “actually and intentionally touches or strikes another person against the will of the other; and causes great bodily harm, permanent disability, or permanent disfigurement.”
Such a charge is a third-degree felony, punishable upon conviction by up to five years in prison.
