The Liberty Learning Foundation returned to Rachel Patterson Elementary School Thursday, December 14, three months after the initial visit to make sure second-graders from RPES and Huxford Elementary School (HES) know they are “The Next Great Americans.”
Students finished 10 weeks in the Super Citizen Program and gathered to celebrate their accomplishments and to honor local heroes.
Judging from the reactions of the students during the assembly, they’ve learned their lessons well, especially three important words – citizen, community, appreciation. Students showed their appreciation for two “super heroes” they selected.
Lake’lyn Boggan introduced Robbie Hayles as the RP Helping Hands Hero for Rachel Patterson Elementary.
Tullulah Strawbridge introduced Robin Barrows as the HES Helping Hands Hero.
Attending the assembly were RPES Principal Toya McMillian, HES Principal Leah Fuqua, State Rep. Alan Baker, Escambia County School Board members Loumeek White and Sherry Digmon.
Liberty Learning Foundation is a non-profit organization which facilitates civics and character programs in K-12. The students study the curriculum which includes encouragement to be a good citizen – “Honor a Hero. Become a Hero.”
Donors to the program are Alabama Department of Education, Alabama Power, AlaTrade Foods, Alfa, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, Regions Bank, Screentech, Southern Pine Electric Cooperative, Georgia-Pacific Packaging and Cellulose-Brewton, and Poarch Creek Indians.
