Details are still not available, but Escambia County Detention Center (ECDC) records show that Brewton police recently arrested two Atmore men on felony drug charges.
Corterious Trevon Ford, 29, and Q’Watrell Demond Ford, 30, were booked into the jail only minutes apart on July 14 and were released later that day, also only minutes apart. Although they were apparently arrested together, Brewton police have not confirmed or denied reports that the two are related.
According to jail records, each is charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance (unspecified). Q’Watrell Ford also is charged with second-degree possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor.
Other Atmore residents arrested during the period July 14-18 by area law enforcement agencies on felony charges include the following:
- Atmore Police Department patrol officers arrested 29-year-old Christiane Tayler McCurry of Atmore July 16 on drug-related and theft-related charges, as well as charges that she is the subject of several outstanding warrants.
According to APD reports, officers responded around 4:40 p.m. to an unnamed local store in response to a reported shoplifting incident. Although officers didn’t immediately locate enough evidence for a shoplifting charge, they discovered the alleged suspect, McCurry, was the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant in Atmore for third-degree criminal trespass, as well as an outstanding warrant from Escambia County, Fla. authorities for battery.
During the APD investigation into the shoplifting charge, officers were given consent to search McCurry’s vehicle. When they did, they discovered two cigarettes containing a green leafy substance that field-tested positive for marijuana, along with a glass pipe that had a white residue that field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
She was placed under arrest and taken to Atmore Municipal Jail, where she was searched by a female officer. Police said McCurry was wearing a pair of shorts under her clothing that still had the price tag attached. She confessed to stealing the shorts from the store.
McCurry, who remained in jail Monday afternoon, July 24, is charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance (a felony), along with one misdemeanor count each of second-degree possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and fourth-degree theft.
She is also charged with being a fugitive from justice.
