An Atmore woman was arrested April 14 by Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputies and charged with felony pot possession.
Details were not immediately available, but the Escambia County Detention Center website shows that Khalila Kechlyren Boatwright, 44, was processed into the jail on one count of first-degree possession of marijuana.
Under Alabama Criminal Code, first-degree possession of marijuana (Class C felony) is charged if the pot’s weight exceeds the state’s “personal use” provisions. First-degree possession (Class D felony) is charged if a person is arrested for a second time for second-degree possession.
A conviction on a Class C charge could result in a prison term of up to 10 years. A conviction on a Class D charge could result in a minimum prison term of 1 year and 1 day, and a maximum term of 5 years behind bars.
Boatwright was released April 19 on bond.
