An Atmore man, the subject of an outstanding warrant based on revocation of his bond on a previous charge, now faces pot, pistol and paraphernalia possession charges after local police pulled over the all-terrain vehicle he was driving along Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on April 6.
The incident began around 1:40 p.m. when an Atmore Police Department patrol officer saw a four-wheeler being driven on the roadway and stopped it.
As the officer was talking with the driver, 35-year-old Charles Jones, he discovered that Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputies were looking for Jones, for whom they had an arrest warrant based on his bond being revoked on an unrelated charge.
When the city officers placed Jones under arrest, they found 23 grams of a green, leafy substance that field-tested positive for marijuana, along with a digital scale and a handgun.
Jones is charged with one count each of first-degree possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a pistol by a convicted felon.
He was processed into the Escambia County Detention Center, from which he was released April 7 on bond.
