Escambia County High’s baseball team staged a late rally but came up short in their latest bid to claim the season’s first win. The Blue Devils slipped to 0-11 after a 9-4 setback against St. Luke’s Episcopal on Monday, March 27.
The team’s inexperienced pitching staff continued to show improvement, but the team continued to struggle at the plate. St. Luke’s managed only 9 hits off 3 ECHS hurlers, but the Blue Devils managed only 5 of their own, each by a different player.
Jamarion Robinson and Lebron Hooks each had a double for ECHS’s only extra-base hits, with Robinson’s driving home 2 runs as the Blue Devils scored 3 times in the sixth inning to make it 8-4.
Caseano Oliver started on the mound but was relieved after facing only 3 batters. Robinson took over and hurled 2-1/3 innings of 1-hit ball, including 3 strikeouts, while walking only 1. Hasten Dean took over in the third and scattered 7 hits over 3-2/3 innings, issuing only 2 walks.
Although the trio didn’t uncork any wild pitches, Robinson and Dean each hit 2 batters with pitches.
According to the schedule posted on MaxPreps, ECHS, now 0-11, will host Blount at 5 p.m. this Thursday, March 30, then remain idle until April 6, when they travel to play Satsuma.
