An Atmore man remained without bond in the Escambia County Detention Center as midweek approached, charged with hitting his elderly stepfather in the head with a piece of wood during an argument.
Atmore Police Department reports show that officers responded around 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 22 to an East 4th Street residence in reference to a domestic disturbance.
The suspect, Dayshawn Dixon, 38, had been arguing with his mother, and his stepfather had attempted to de-escalate the argument.
Dixon reportedly grabbed a large piece of wood and struck his stepfather in the head, then walked out of the residence and used the same piece of wood to break out all the windows.
Responding officers contacted Dixon as he was walking away from the residence. They placed him under arrest and charged him with one count each of second-degree elder abuse, third-degree domestic violence and second-degree criminal mischief.
The victim, who received a severe laceration on his forehead, was reportedly taken to Atmore Community Hospital, where he was treated and released.
