A local man was charged with trafficking in dangerous drugs after a search of his residence turned up two pounds of synthetic marijuana.

According to Atmore Police Department reports, an APD narcotics investigator executed a warrant at a house in the 400 block of Bragg Street, at approximately 9:20 a.m. on July 20. Along with the Spice, police also came up with digital scales and a small amount of marijuana.

Montay Terrell Harris, 32, was charged with one count each of drug trafficking, second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The marijuana and paraphernalia charges are misdemeanors.

According to the Escambia County Detention Center’s website, Harris remained in the facility, without bond, Monday, July 25.

Too relaxed

A Florida man was arrested July 22 on felony drug charges after he apparently pulled into the parking lot of a local hotel and passed out.

Atmore Police Department Sgt. Darrell McMann reported that officers were sent to Holiday Inn Express around 7:30 a.m. after receiving a report of “an unconscious male subject sitting in his running vehicle,” which was preventing several other vehicles in parking spaces from moving.

Officers knocked several times on the windows attempting to wake up the driver — later identified as 51-year-old Charles Southerland of Gulf Breeze. They noticed too that he was “sweating profusely and acting strangely.”

Approximately two grams of methamphetamine were found inside the car, as was a rolled marijuana cigarette and an undisclosed quantity of Suboxone pills inside a metal container that was wrapped in tape.

Southerland was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance (meth and Suboxone) and one count each of second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

‘Shouting and running in circles’

Another Atmore man was arrested on felony drug charges July 19 after he was reportedly acting in a disorderly manner outside the local Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen restaurant.

Police were called to the fast-food establishment, located near Interstate 65, around 7:40 p.m. The first officer to arrive observed 33-year-old Chase Lynn, “acting strangely.”

Police reports show that Lynn was “shouting and running in circles.” As the officer approached, Lynn began backing away, then ran away as he was being ordered to stop.

After a short foot chase, Lynn was arrested without further incident. When the suspect was searched, a “clear, crystal-like substance” was found in his pocket. A field test resulted in a positive reading for methamphetamine.

Lynn was charged with one count each of possession of a controlled substance and attempting to elude a police officer. He was booked into the Escambia County Detention Center and remained there, under $5,000 bond, Monday, July 25.

Liquid meth

Also on July 19, about two hours after the incident at Popeyes, an APD narcotics investigator saw a vehicle “commit a traffic violation” and conducted a traffic stop.

The investigator discovered that the driver, Guy Coleman Wynn, 46, was the subject of an “active warrant” obtained by police.

The drug detective searched the vehicle and discovered a “clear, liquid substance in several jars” that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Also found in the vehicle was tubing that had residue in it.

Wynn was booked into the county jail on one count each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released the following day after bond was posted.
