East Brewton resident Shaun Golden completed qualifications required to have his name on the ballot as a candidate for Escambia County Sheriff. Qualifying as a candidate for the general election on November 8, is an opportunity Golden is happy to have.
Golden is overjoyed and proud to announce his candidacy for Escambia County Sheriff. He feels the Sheriff’s Department should be for the people. It should work for you each day to make sure first, the community gets what it needs when it comes to the safety of our citizens, rehabilitating and reforming inmates by partnering with our corporations and local businesses to properly train and provide the necessary skills needed to slow the chances of offenders repeating the same behaviors, and also educating our deputies, correction officers and staff on departmental policies along with being knowledgeable of our state and federal laws under the United States Constitution.
Golden wants to make sure all employees are given the equipment and tools they need to perform their duties and to do so while providing better pay.
With 23 years of experience in law enforcement – 19 in Escambia County. He has lived a life serving others and wants to use that experience to continue serving the people of Escambia County.
Golden wants to use his knowledge and experience of the job to move the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department forward, to make our agency one we can have exceptional pride in and most of all get in the trenches with our staff. Let them know that even if he is the sheriff, he is not afraid of hard work and doesn’t mind working alongside his staff. His staff will know they can come to him with any problems, questions, or concerns. He may not always be able to give them the results they want or desire, but can assure them he will be honest, transparent and do what is best for our department and our citizens.
Golden has worked in law enforcement with the Brewton Police Department as an officer, Escambia County Sheriff’s Department as a domestic violence crime unit investigator and with the 21st Judicial Task Force, Flomaton Police Department as a lieutenant and assistant police chief and Atmore Police Department as sergeant and narcotics investigator. He currently serves as assistant police chief in the city of Georgiana.
Having worked throughout the county in each city, he is familiar with this county and many of the citizens he’s served. He will have an ‘open door’ policy for staff as well as the citizens of Escambia County. He wants the sheriff’s office to be more involved in all school activities and have a presence at all of the schools.
Shaun Golden was born in Brewton, Alabama, but raised in Conecuh County. He is a 1998 graduate of Hillcrest High School in Evergreen and graduated Cum laude from Columbia Southern University in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration.
He is married to Bridget Golden, who is employed with the Brewton City Schools System. The couple has a daughter, Peyton, who attends T.R. Miller High School. They are members of Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he serves as head of security and also serves on other committees at the church.
Golden’s career in law enforcement began in 1999 as a corrections officer for Conecuh County. He later moved to Andalusia and served as a corrections officer for both Conecuh County and Andalusia Police Department.
Among other certifications and honors Golden has received throughout his career is his diploma of graduation in 2000 from the Montgomery Police Academy. He began work with Brewton Police Department following graduation.
Golden has completed training with the Federal Bureau of Investigations and has served as a DARE Resource officer. Serving as an officer for the Child Advocacy Unit, Sex Abuse and Domestic Violence Crime Unit, Golden has undergone training to enable him to be a sex offender caseworker. He has gone through two rounds of training with the U.S. Department of Justice in human/sex trafficking as well as anti-terrorism and Homeland Security training with the DOJ and is SCIC certified. Other areas of training for Golden include drug abuse, response to street narcotics, patrol supervisor training, active shooter training, neighborhood safety, officer safety, firearms training and crime scene investigation among others.
He has been a student under the leadership of the Alabama Criminal Justice Training Center, Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms as well as local, county and state law enforcement agencies.
Golden has known for quite some time he wanted to return home and seek the office of Sheriff, but timing dictated his process. Golden said he has made lots of moves on his own, but he made a vow that from now on, any moves he made would be God’s plan and God’s timing. With many years, months, and hours of prayer, he and his wife decided to go for his dream and run for sheriff of Escambia County Alabama on the Democrat ticket and he is eager to serve the people of Escambia County.
Golden looks forward to building a relationship as well as gaining the support of the people of this county. He made it clear that as the chief law enforcement officer, every officer will enforce the laws of Alabama and the constitution and not those of the sheriff or police chiefs. We can work together to represent this county. MORE SERVICE … less politics!
