On Saturday, March 27, the Greater Escambia Council for the Arts will premiere its first ever filmed staging of a show with their performance of Shakespeare’s comedy, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
What started as a typical production for the organization turned into a film due to the challenges brought about by Covid-19. The cast and crew were made up entirely of volunteers, with the show being directed by Andrew Willis and the film crew led by Dan Johnson.
The cast features Kyiah Bailey as Hermia, Trevor Miller as Lysander, Katherine Eby as Helena, Justus Zundel as Demetrius, Joseph Seltzer as Oberon, Ellen Johnson as Titania, and Andrew Goble as Bottom, with the role of Puck being portrayed by Leah Miller, Mel Whittington, Alexis Strength, Victoria Strength, and Breely Richardson.
The theatre will open its doors and concession stand on Saturday, March 27, and Sunday, March 28, for anyone who would like to come view the film in a theatrical setting. To ensure proper social distancing, the theatre will be capped at 50 percent capacity.
Saturday’s show will start at 7 p.m., and Sunday’s will start at 2 p.m., with the box office opening 1 hour prior. Tickets are $15 and will be available only at the door for this special event.
For those who would like to view the film from the comfort of their homes, it will be available for rental via www.gecarts.org starting Tuesday, March 30. For $15 you will have access to the film for 24 hours with the ability to view it as many times as you’d like during that time. All proceeds from the rentals will go towards GECA’s goal of safely bringing live entertainment back to the area.
The theater is located at the corner of Trammell and Nashville.
