Five principals in the Escambia County school system were considered for contract renewal at the recent Board of Education meeting, Thursday, March 23, however only four recommendations were approved, authorizing Superintendent John Knott to negotiate contracts.
Three were approved without discussion:
* Leigh Ann Rowland, Huxford Elementary School, for a 3-year period, effective July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2020
* Stewart Powell, Pollard-McCall Junior High School, for a 3-year period, effective July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2020
* Todd Williamson, Escambia Career Readiness Center, for a 3-year period, effective July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2020
The non-renewal, also approved without discussion, was the contract for Anthony Morris, Escambia County Alternative School, effective June 30, 2017. The following was cited on the agenda: “The reason for this recommendation is unsatisfactory performance of duties and low test scores.”
The only contract held out for executive session was that of A.C. Moore Elementary Principal John Brantley. However, following the executive session, Knott was authorized to negotiate a principal contract for a 3-year period, effective July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2020.
Board attorney Broox Garrett was also in attendance to discuss a legal matter(s) with the board in executive session.
