Escambia Academy’s softball team started its season off on a positive note on February 25 as they found victory twice against Atmore Christian School during a double-header on EA’s home field.
EA started off strong with superb pitching from Lexi Hollinger. Hollinger pitched a complete 3-inning no-hitter against ACS during the first game of the double header in a game that was called after the third inning, when the “mercy rule” was invoked.
Hollinger allowed no walks and no hits, and only two ACS players reached base — both due to errors. She registered 3 strikeouts in the 18-0 EA win.
The second game started much like the first for EA.
Hollinger again dominated on the mound during the second game, although she gave up 8 runs.
Mary Thompson Lancaster went 4-for-7 at the plate and registered 7 RBI in the Lady Cougars. Raven Ramer went 2-for-4, walked 3 times and had 5 RBI.
“We are a young team as far as experience,” EA head coach Mike Sims said. “We have been taking strides to get better and will continue to improve as the season goes along. Our goal is to up the standard at EA, and the girls took a great first step with their performance against ACS. I am extremely proud of my girls and the way that they handled themselves during the game.”
The EA girls will host ACS again on Monday, March 4 at 4 p.m.
