Geraldine Victoria “Vickie” Mason

Ms. Geraldine Victoria “Vickie” Mason, age 62, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Thursday, June 12, 2025.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Zion Star AME Zion Church – Atmore with Rev. Jean Archie and Pastor Rev. Denbray Archie, Eulogist officiating. Inhumation will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Christopher C. Pruitt

Mr. Christopher C. Pruitt, age 51, of Bay Minette, Ala. passed away Sunday, June 8, 2025.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 21, 2025 at noon at Latham Community Cemetery (Baldwin Co.).

Terri C. Dewberry

Mrs. Terri C. Dewberry, age 62, years old, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2025 in Brewton, Ala. Originally from Mobile, Ala., she had been living in Bay Minette for the last thirty years.
She loved being with her family and found joy in crafting, crocheting, and monogramming beautiful items. A skilled cook and baker extended to cake decorating. A proud Alabama graduate, she cheered for her team. In the evenings, she would relax by watching shows like NCIS, Criminal Minds, Crisley Knows Best and Duck Dynasty. The river held a special place in her heart, where she had cherished moments fishing with Dewayne. She loved growing vegetables and spending time outdoors. Above all, her grandchildren brought her immense joy and made her days brighter.
She was preceded in death by her father, Roger Cruit.
Mrs. Dewberry is survived by her devoted husband of twenty-four years, DeWayne Dewberry of Bay Minette; mother, Judy “Tina” Cruit of Atmore, Ala.; two sons, Cody (Misty) White of Flomaton, Ala. and Kevin (Stacey) White Dewberry  of Mobile; five grandchildren, Brendan, Hayden, Lexi, Huxley and Hadley White and her dog, Bella

Carlton Murray Johnson 
Mr. Carlton Murray Johnson, Sr., age 86, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2025 in his home. He was born in Conecuh County, Ala. to John Calvin and Bertha Owens Johnson.

From high school in Evergreen to business and community service in Atmore, Murray and Jean Johnson made their mark in this community.

Murray began his professional career with Gulf Development in Mobile, was later recruited by Liberty National Life Insurance Company which eventually led to their move to Atmore at which time he established his own private insurance practice, Murray Johnson Insurance.

For thousands of kids and their families, Murray’s legacy is his commitment to youth sports in Atmore. In 1968, he co-founded the Atmore Pee Wee Football League and served as its president for many years. That same year, he became involved with the local baseball league, where he coached and mentored young athletes. In 1973, Murray became president of both the Atmore Cal Ripken League and the Atmore Babe Ruth League, serving in those roles until 2023. He held the position of Babe Ruth League District Commissioner for Area 10 for an incredible 52 years. Murray oversaw and organized numerous district and state baseball tournaments, creating opportunities for young athletes to showcase their talents and fostering a sense of community among players, coaches, and families.

His civic contributions extended beyond sportspast president of the Atmore High School Quarterback Club; Drive Chairman and board member of the Atmore United Fund; member of the Atmore Education Revenue Committee from 1971 to 2003; county co-chair for the Lurleen B. Wallace Cancer Center Hospital in Birmingham.

In 2016, Murray received the Atmore Area Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sandra Johnson; his son-in-law, Jose Tomas Resa. 

Mr. Johnson is survived by his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Jean Hanks Johnson; his son, Carlton Murray Johnson, Jr. (Kim); his daughters, Susan Johnson Powell (Chris) and Sandy Johnson Resa; grandchildren, Kathryn Powell Turner (Jake), Carlton Murray Johnson, III, Caroline Jean Powell Davis (Jarrett), Nicolas Morales Resa, John Calvin Johnson (Taylor), Elizabeth Johnson Murray (Jackson), Christian Samuel Johnson; great-grandchildren, Marlee Kate Turner, William Mason Turner and Grayson Jack Murray. 

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Atmore. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia Street, Evergreen, Ala.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 28, 2025 from 1:30 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Carlton Murray Johnson, III, Nicolas Morales Resa, John Calvin Johnson, Christian Samuel Johnson, Jerry Wayne Harrelson, William Jake Turner, Jarrett Lance Davis and Jackson Freeman Murray.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to the City of Atmore Recreation Department, P. O. Drawer 1297, Atmore, AL 36504.
