ALDOT warns of toll collection text scam

Special to Atmore News

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) warns Alabama residents of an ongoing scam that is being relayed over text messages.
Officials reported that anything received that claims to be a toll collection effort from ALDOT is a scam. The text message, which was not sent by ALDOT, may claim the recipient is subject to legal action if the outstanding toll fees are not paid.
If you have received a text that claims to be from ALDOT that says you owe a toll, it is a scam.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) reports that clicking a link in a scam text can lead to a phishing attack, in which the scammer tries to take your personal information, credit card information, or more.
If you received one of these texts:
*Don’t click on any links or respond to the text.
*Report the unwanted text by using your phone’s “report junk” option or forward it to 7726 (SPAM).
ALDOT officials urge those who read this to help friends and family by warning them about the ongoing scam.
