Robert Jay Russell

Russell

Mr. Robert Jay Russell, age 94, passed away Monday, May 26, 2025.  He was born in Westville, Fla. to the late Jay Emmitt Russell and Clara Belle Braxton.

He was a long-time resident of Oak Grove, FL. He loved his Lord and was a devoted, faithful member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was employed by Ideal Cement Company for 38 years as sales manager for the Louisiana and Mississippi division. He was a member of the Jackson #1 Lodge of Freemasonry for 67 years and the Shriners International. He served in the United States Army during WWII.  He was stationed in Okinawa and Tacoma, Washington. He was an avid gardener, preserving his crop and enjoying the fruits of his labor.

Mr. Russell was the beloved husband of 60 years to the late Joyce Marie McDonald; loving father of Deborah Lynn Russell McLeod (Mack), Robyn Dale Stuart (Mike) and Rochelle Marie Pfeiffer (Todd); proud grandfather to Brad, Lance, and Matthew McLeod, Jeremy, Joshua, and Heather Stuart, Chadd, Alex, and Alysa Pfeiffer;  great-grandfather to twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brother to Johnny Russell, Billie Jean Mason, and the late Willis E. Russell, Danny H. Russell, Neal Russell, Keith M. Russell, and Betty Thompson.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 30, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Dennis Terry officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Oak Grove.

Active pallbearers will be, Brad McLeod, Lance McLeod, Matthew McLeod, Jeremy Stuart, Joshua Stuart, Alex Pfeiffer, Kade McLeod, and Ian Williamson.

The family will receive friends Friday, May 30, 2025 from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Judy Marie Sanchez

Mrs. Judy Marie Sanchez, age 78, passed away at her home in Atmore, Ala. Monday, May 26, 2025. Originally from Mansfield, La. she spent most of her life in Baxley, Ga. before moving to Atmore two years ago.
She and her family enjoyed traveling together but nothing compared to the simple pleasures she loved at home. She had a special fondness for flowers. In her free time, she rode her four-wheeler through the countryside and fishing by the water. She also enjoyed time with her pets.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edwin and Sudie Lee Jordan Smith; brothers, Charles Presley Smith, Albert Paul Smith, Thomas Raymond Smith and William Harold Smith; sisters, Annie Lee Cole, Doris Berzeler, Sammy Taylor and Wanda Jean Green.
Mrs. Sanchez is survived by her partner, Alan Sanchez of Baxley; four daughters, Terri (Brian) McCreary of Atmore, Shelia Kimmons of Cedar Bluff, Ala., Cindy (Randall) Peebles of Bratt, Fla. and Crystal Gail (Danny) Branson of Brewton, Ala.; two sons, David Jernigan of Flomaton, Ala. and Timothy Alvin (Deloris) Jernigan of Tylertown, Miss.; sister, Kathy Robinson of Ocala, Fla.; sixteen grandchildren and forty-four great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 30, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC with Reverend Rickey Tedder officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 30, 2025 from 1p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC.

James R. “Red” Weaver

Mr. James R. “Red” Weaver, aged 79, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2025 in Atmore, Ala. Originally from McDavid, Fla. he spent most of his life in Poarch, Ala. He was known for his strong faith and was a devoted member of the Friendly Holiness Church. He loved spending his days squirrel hunting an fishing. He enjoyed gardening and sharing with his family. He was a big fan of Alabama football; watching westerns; BBQ with family. After many years working as a Heavy Equipment Operator in the oilfield, he found fulfillment in both his work and the love of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Thelma Jane Davis Weaver; wife, Charlene Weaver; son, Jeffrey Lynn Weaver, numerous brothers and sisters.
Mr. Weaver is survived by his son, Daniel (Tracy) Weaver of Atmore; daughters, Frankie Morris and Shane Haskew of Poarch, Christine Warren of Clarksville, Tenn.; sister, Charlotte (Ted) Toop of Molino, Fla.; fifteen grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.

Cody Lane Rolin

Mr. Cody Lane Rolin, age 27, passed away Thursday, May 29, 2025 in Mobile, Ala. He was a valued member of the Poarch Community Church, where he shared his faith and connected with those around him.
He loved spending his time outdoors, whether it was riding buggies or four-wheelers, or enjoying a day at the creek. He had a passion for shopping and was a big fan of Alabama football and the Atlanta Braves. He loved watching his favorite shows like Seinfeld and Yellowstone. For him, life was all about good times and great company.
He was preceded in by his grandparents, Sylvia and Robert Hadley, and Peggy Couch; uncle, Earl Hadley.
Mr. Rolin is survived by his parents, Bryan and Lynda Couch of Atmore, Ala.; brother, Sean (Morgan) Rolin of Syracuse, N.Y.; aunts and uncles, Lynn Hadley, Clifford Wasden, Edward and Kendall Hadley, Evan and Hali Hadley, Sandy and Donna Hadley, Aubrey and Tasha Rolin, Danny and Tammy Couch and Johnny Steadham.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC with Brother Walter Rolin officiating.
Burial will follow at Judson Creek Indian Cemetery.

Ken Ray Parrish

Mr. Ken Ray Parrish, age 63, of Atmore, Ala. passed away at his home Sunday,  May 28, 2025, in Atmore.   He was born in Jonesboro, Ark. to Jake Parrish and Shirley Issom Johnson.  He was a carpenter by trade, building an entire log cabin start to finish.  In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and swimming in the creek.  He loved his family deeply and was so excited to welcome his new grandbaby to the family.  Ken believed in God and was passionate about helping the elderly in his community, believing that God put him on this earth to help others.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jake Parrish.

Mr. Parish is survived by his mother and stepfather, Shirley (Luke) Johnson; his loving fiancé, Marietta Johnson; his son, Ryan Parrish; his step-children, TJ (Tabitha) Hitchcock and Santana (James) Sunstein, his sisters; Amy (Rich) Rodgers, Toni (Tim) Hertst; his brother, Mitch (Laura) Parrish; his grandchildren; Madalynn Blohm, Sentinel Dellinger, Estelle Sunstein, TJ Hitchcock II, Temperance Hitchcock, Timber Hitchcock; his great-grandchild, Adaline Hankish and his niece, Cherrish Parrish.

There are no formal services to be held at this time.

Wilma L. Quarker Smith

Mrs. Wilma L. Quarker Smith of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, June 1, 2025 at a local hospital. She was a 1968 graduate of Escambia County Training School. She earned an Associate’s degree from Faulkner State Community College, a Bachelor’s degree from Alabama A & M University and a Master’s degree from Alabama State University. She was an educator, teaching English at Escambia County High School and was an Associate Dean at Reid State Technical College.  

She was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She received many accolades and awards for her dedication to teaching and learning throughout the state of Alabama.  

She was a devoted Christian and student of the Bible, a missionary and faithful member of Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church.  She was a brilliant communicator of God’s Word and will be remembered for her dedication to her faith, to her Sunday school students, and to her church family. 

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Van R. Smith.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her mother, Reather Quarker of Atmore; her three daughters, Dr. Teresa L. Quarker Smith, Callie Grace Quarker Smith and Dr. Catherine Packer-Williams; four sisters, Diane Lowe, Emma Sizemore, Schemenia Reynolds and LaToshia Quarker; her brother, David Quarker, Sr.; her four grandsons ,Carter Van Smith, William (Luke) Lucas Smith, Jeffrey Williams, and Jeremy Williams. She will be remembered by a host of relatives, former students, and special friends.

A celebration of life service will take place Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel’s Faith Center, 710 E Ridgely St., Atmore, Ala.

The family will receive friends Friday, June 6, 2025 from 2 p. m. – 5 p.m. at Turner Funeral Chapel.

William Gary Dawkins

Mr. William Gary Dawkins, age 83, of Dawkins Road in Brewton, Ala., passed away Saturday, May 31, 2025 at his residence. He was a retired lab technician with Smurfit Stone Container with 43 years of service.  Mr. Dawkins was a member of May Creek Community Church.  He loved hunting, fishing, being with his family, Alabama football and basketball.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Myrtice Adams Dawkins; brothers, Rupert, Randol, Rothel, Donald;  sisters, Jeanette Crawford, Sue Janes, Elizabeth Hacker and Margaret Burnham.

Mr. Dawkins is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Juanita Beasley Dawkins of Brewton; son, Greg (Rhonda) Dawkins of Brewton; two daughters, Weena (Miles) Ball of Wing, Ala., Teresa (Kenny) Hultz of Brewton; seven grandchildren, Misty, Meg, Brenna, Ashley, Cate, Logan and Madison; great-grandchildren, Aly, Noah, Landry, Bella, Drake, Eli, Ben and Hattie.

The family received friends Monday afternoon June 2, 2025, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. service time at Craver’s Funeral Home Inc.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 2, 2025, at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home Inc with Brother Dan Hellums officiating and Teresa Hultz speaking. Interment followed in May Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers were, Chris Ford, Nate Sheffield, Ricky Janes, Logan Dawkins, Colby Craver’s Funeral Home Inc in charge of all arrangements. Brewton, Ala.

Margaret Ann Knott

Mrs. Margaret Ann Knott, age 70, of Lillian Ala. passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025. She was born in Brewton, Ala. to Oben Halford and Laura Halford. She was 1973 graduate of W. S. Neal in East Brewton. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of East Brewton. With her love of the water, she and her husband moved to Lillian, Ala. in February, 2025. She loved to travel

Growing up she always worked hard and was dedicated to her dream of becoming a teacher. She earned her bachelor’s degree and teaching credentials at the University of West Florida. Greenert; She continued her education earning her master’s degree, and then her educational specialist degree at Troy University. She achieved her dream and fulfilled her career as a teacher for twenty-seven years at W. S. Neal Elementary school.

Mrs. Knott is survived by her husband of over 50 years, John Knott; sisters, Deborah Caroll and Sandy; nieces and nephews; grand-nieces and grand-nephews; relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Macon Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Green Acres Cemetery, Old Hwy 31, Brewton.
