The following felony arrests were reported by officers of the Atmore Police Department (APD) during the period May 19-25:
Jimmy Nord

Nord

The 39-year-old Atmore man was arrested May 19 on violations of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification ACT (SORNA) after he was picked up on an outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrant.
As Nord was being processed into the city lockup, arresting officers discovered that Nord is a convicted sex offender who is required to register with APD if he is living within the borders of the city.
Nord told officers he lived in the Monroeville area, but further investigation determined he had not registered with the Monroeville Police Department, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Atmore Police Department, or Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and that he was in fact living within Atmore’s city limits.
Nord was charged with failing to register as an adult sex offender and was booked into the Escambia County Detention Center (ECDC), where he remained Monday afternoon, May 26.

No details were available by Tuesday’s press time, but ECDC records show the 22-year-old woman (city of residence not provided) was arrested May 25 by APD on felony and misdemeanor drug possession charges.
Hammond remained in the county jail Monday afternoon, May 26, charged with one count each of possession of a controlled substance, second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sherry Avery

The 45-year-old Atmore woman was arrested May 22 after officers who responded to a domestic disturbance noted that she seemed to be under the influence of some substance.
The police response, to a residence in the 900 block of East Horner Street, was around 9:10 p.m. Officers arrived to find the victim had injuries to his face, and they talked with the suspect, Avery.
As they talked with the woman, police noticed she was “acting strangely and seemed to be under the influence of narcotics.”
Officers also discovered she was in possession of a small amount of synthetic cannabis (Spice), a small amount of marijuana, and items used to ingest narcotics.
Avery was booked into the county jail on one count each of possession of a controlled substance, second-degree possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and third-degree assault.
She has since been released.
