Special to Atmore News
Atmore police want to remind residents of all ages that financial fraud occurs every 15 seconds in the United States.
Scammers are sophisticated and use minimal details they find about you through online “phishing,” from your mail or from someone you know, to make up stories and scenarios that seem real or possible enough to get you to fall for their scam.
The scams are designed to catch people of all ages off guard, and the Atmore Police Department is introducing a Senior Citizen Financial Fraud PowerPoint presentation that can help prevent that.
The presentation, which is geared to older residents but is applicable to residents of all ages, provides helpful information, prevention tools to protect potential victims, and share best practices to help victims who fall victim to a scam.
City police will present the program to any community group, civic organization, or church that would be interested in the presentation, or in the Online Safety Presentation Atmore PD is also offering.
Any interested group is encouraged to contact Sgt. Darrell McMann at 251-368-9141, ext. 1174 or by email at darrell.mcmann@atmorepolice.us.
