Main Street Atmore recognized by Main Street America

Special to Atmore News

Main Street Atmore has been designated as an Accredited Main Street America program for meeting rigorous performance standards. Each year, Main Street America and its partners announce the list of designated programs to recognize their exceptional commitment to preservation-based economic development and community revitalization through the Main Street Approach™.
Main Street Atmore has generated over $10 million in local reinvestment, helped open 32 businesses, created more than 52 new jobs, assisted in the rehabilitation of over 50 buildings, and logged over 2,500 volunteer hours. Since 2020, every dollar raised through the events has been reinvested into the Main Street District.
“Main Street Atmore enhances community vibrancy, supports historic preservation, and fosters community building through organization and the unwavering support of our partners,” Main Street Atmore Director Shinora Redmond said.
To date, Main Street has provided nearly $375,000 in grant assistance and has contributed to various downtown projects, including the Butterfly Garden at the Legion, downtown murals, Boxcar Willie, The Alley on Main, and more.
“Main Street America is proud to recognize this year’s 821 Accredited Main Street America
programs for their commitment to building strong and vibrant communities,” said Erin Barnes, President and CEO of Main Street America. Their tireless efforts show what’s possible when engaged leaders work together to shape places that reflect the people they serve. The continued impact of our network shows that the Main Street movement remains a powerful force for positive transformation.”
Main Street Atmore’s performance was evaluated through assessments conducted by the organization’s personnel and board of directors, and Main Street Alabama, which works in partnership with Main Street America to identify local programs that meet rigorous national community evaluation standards.
