A Freemanville man who was sentenced to 15 years in prison for providing law enforcement officers with a false identification, was denied parole during recent hearings by the Alabama Board of Pardons & Paroles
According to Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) records, Edmund Maurice Deese was convicted in 2022 of obstructing justice by using a fake ID and was ordered to serve 180 months in prison. He has served only about 37 months, just about the same amount of time he served on his first trip to state prison.
ADOC records show the Freemanville man had accumulated 471 days of “good time” during his current stint, but the entire amount was later revoked.
Deese was convicted in 2003 of possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to 10 years behind bars. He served only 3 years, 2 months and 23 days and was released after being given credit for 6 years, 9 months and 4 days of “good time.”
Unless he is awarded a pardon or parole, the inmate — currently housed at the Mobile Work Release facility — will not be freed from prison until March 31, 2035.

The board also denied parole for a Brewton sex offender who has been convicted of five separate violations of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) over the past nine years.
The first time Spears was imprisoned came in 1992, when he was convicted of first-degree rape and served all but a couple days of a 15-year sentence.
He was convicted again in 2016 of three SORNA violations and served nearly all of a 3-year sentence (two other 3-year sentences ran concurrently), then was convicted shortly after his release from prison of two more violations.
He is now serving 240 months on the primary charge, with a 15-year sentence being served concurrently on the second violation.
According to Alabama Department of Corrections records, Spears will remain in prison until at least July 14, 2036, unless he is granted parole or a pardon. He is currently housed at Bibb Correctional Facility.
