Reid State students Darrian Middleton and Tristan Watson were among fewer than 50 students recognized as the 2025 All-Alabama Academic Team. They were honored Friday, April 11, during the Alabama Community College System’s (ACCS) All-Alabama Academic Team Recognition Program in Birmingham.
Darrian Middleton and Tristan Watson, both members of Reid State’s Beta Nu Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society, will each receive a $1,000 scholarship for being selected to the All-Alabama Academic Team.
Middleton, a Virginia native, is an Industrial Electronics Technology major who serves as PTK President and as a Reid State Ambassador, all while maintaining a 4.0 grade point average (GPA). Watson, a Jay, Fla., native and Reid State basketball standout, is a Business Administration Technology major at Reid State with the program’s highest GPA of 3.8.
The recognition program was established in 1995 as an enhancement to the All-USA National Academic Team Recognition Program, which is sponsored by the Phi Theta Kappa Honor (PTK) Society, the American Association of Community Colleges and USA Today.
Criteria for the All-Alabama Academic Team includes recognizing students who “excel academically; demonstrate intellectual rigor in their course of study; show academic growth and potential; and use their two-year college education to better themselves, their schools and their communities.” Each community college in Alabama has two representatives.
