A Brewton man, currently serving his fifth prison term on theft or theft-related charges since 1998, was again denied parole during recent hearings by the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles.
Shane Kendall, currently housed at Elmore Correctional Facility, has been in and out of the state prison system for the past 25-plus years. He has served less than 5 years of a 12-year sentence for first-degree receiving stolen property. Kendall had accumulated 1,653 days of “good time,” but had all of them revoked.
The system had worked well in the past for the Brewton man. He was released in 2000 after serving slightly more than two years of a 5-year sentence for first-degree theft here, then returned to prison in 2001 after being convicted in Conecuh County of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
An accumulation of “good time” led to his parole each time before he served his complete sentence.
Kendall was back behind bars in 2006, convicted of a string of thefts that took place in Escambia, Monroe and Covington counties. He was convicted of first-degree theft again in 2011, this time in Covington County, and sentenced to 15 years but was granted parole after serving less than five years.
In 2011 he served almost five years of a 15-year sentence for a theft conviction in Conecuh County before being granted parole.
Unless he is granted parole or probation, Kendall will remain behind state bars and barbed wire until November 23, 2029.
