Mr. Gordon Eugene Everette, age 92, of Daphne, Ala., passed away January 9, 2025. He was born to the late Jessie Earl Everette, Sr. and Georgia Mae Turberville Everette. He attended Rachel Patterson Elementary School and Escambia County High School. He was a member of the Alabama National Guard and was mobilized during the Korean War while a senior. He completed high school when he was discharged. He was employed thirty one years at Monsanto (formerly Chemstrand in Pensacola, Fla., and lost an eye in an industrial accident while working there. He served fourteen years on the Supervisory Committee on Monsanto Credit Union; worked for the State Department of Corrections at Fountain Correctional Institute four eleven years and then seven years for the Atmore Police Department as maintenance man.
He had been active in Woodmen Life (formerly Woodmen of the World) for many years, serving the local chapter as President, then Treasurer. He was State Jurisdictional President of Woodmen from 1991-1993. He enjoyed several years as a Gideon and loved speaking in churches until he lost his hearing and had to give it up.
He became a Christian at a young age and has been active throughout his life in Baptist Churches. Since moving to Daphne, AL several years ago he has been very active in Eastern Shore Baptist Church. His activity declined when he lost his eyesight in February 2018.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Gordon Michael Everette; sisters, Ouida Callender, Bobbie Spain, Alma Miles; brothers, Joseph P. Everette, Williard O. Everette, Smith Everette, Jessie Earl Everette, Jr. and Grover Everette.
Mr. Everette is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Jettie L. Gulsby Everette; his daughters, Susan. E. (Gene) Fischer of Bella Vista, Ark., Melanie E. (Ken) Whitaker of Marietta, Ga.; his son, Charles. E. (Gene), (Dawn) Everette of Fairhope, Ala.; grandchildren, Ashley Vinson (Brian), Carter Fischer, Leslie Keith (Blake), Brian Whitaker (Robin), Kristie Freeman (Taylor) and Hali Everette; seven great-grandchildren, Abbie, Libby, Tanner, Hunter Vinson, Walker Keith, Eden and Morrison Freeman.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday January 15, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore, Ala. with Dr. Stuart Davidson, and Rev. Jerry Caylor officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 1 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brian Whitaker, grand-sons-in-law, Brian Vinson, Blake Keith, Taylor Freeman, nephews, Scott Everette, and Tommy Kirksey.

Russell R. Lassiter

Mr. Russell R. Lassiter, age 86, lifelong resident of Atmore, Ala., passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at his home. He attended Fretwell Tabernacle Holiness Church, reflecting his deep faith and connection to his community. He Mr. Lassiter was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His love for hunting brought him to places like Ox Bow (Matthews Family Hunting Camp) and Bell Creek Hunting Club, spending hours pursuing deer, turkeys and doves. He was an accomplished carpenter, taking great pride in his craftsmanship. He was always the loudest cheerleader in the stands during grandchildren’s sporting events. His passion for gardening, particularly for planting, was exceptional. He enjoyed watching Westerns and programs on the Outdoor channel. Fishing at Smith Lake and the Alabama River provided him with peace and happiness, but above all, his deep love for the Lord guided his life and choices, grounding him in faith and gratitude.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Jack (Ada Bell Wall) Lassiter; three sons, Bobby Lassiter, Gary Joe McGhee and Martin Russell Lassiter; grandson, Joey McGhee; one great-granddaughter, Schaefer Camryn McGhee; five brothers, Comer Lee Lassitter, Carnis Lassitter, Milford Lassitter, Rubert Lassitter and Marshall Lassitter; four sisters, Shirley White, Grace Myers, Sue Cumbie and Carol Cumbie.
Mr. Lassiter is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Maxine Lassiter of Atmore; three sons, William Russell “Rusty” (Sonya) Lassiter of McCullough, Ala., Randall Rydell Lassiter of Ohatchee, Ala. and David Allen McGhee of Atmore, Alabama; daughter, Elizabeth Linda (John) Hamilton-Roche of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; beloved dog, Lucky; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren..
Funeral service were held Sunday, January 12, 2025 at 1p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC. With Rev. Don Davis and Sister Helen Stewart officiating. Burial followed at New Home Cemetery.
The family received friends Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC.
Pallbearers were Clint Lassiter, Cassie Lassiter, Drake Lassiter, Russell Lassiter, Jalia Lassiter, Tripp Lassiter and Adam McGhee
Honorary pallbearers were Hooper Matthews III, Cody Cumbie, Bruce Vickery, Otis Gatlin, Pat Lassitter, Mark White, Curtis Fayard and Eugene “Kookie” Lassiter.

Mrs. Mary Virginia Cook, age 83, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025, a native and lifelong resident of Bay Minette, Ala. As a faithful member of Whitehouse Fork Baptist Church, she devoted much of her life to her community and her faith. Her contributions to both her congregation and the broader community reflected her deep commitment to service and fellowship. Her legacy will be fondly remembered by those whose lives she touched throughout her remarkable journey. She was a nurturing individual who devoted herself to the care of her family and friends, always putting their needs above her own. Her passion for life was evident in her love for puzzles as well as in her garden filled with flowers she tended with great affection. She also delighted in shopping, often finding little treasures that brought her happiness. An ardent Elvis Presley fan, she enjoyed singing along to his classic hits.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James (Evelyn Nelson) Donald; children, Jeanette (Steve) Dunlavy, Wade Hadley, and Jackie (Timmy) White; siblings, Ed Donald, Butch Donald, Dorothy Johnson, Walter Donald and Melvin Donald.
Mrs. Cook is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Mack) White; four siblings, Thomas Donald, Irene Toler, Claire Bush and Louise Powell; five grandchildren, Lynn Joiner, Jessica Voorhees, Bradley Dunlavy, Stevie Dunlavy and T.J. White; fourteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Whitehouse Fork Baptist Church with Bro Tony Banning officiating.

Mr. James “Jim” Spears of Brewton, Ala., formerly of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, January 10, 2025 in Hoover, Ala.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 2 p.m. in the Sanctuary of First Methodist Church of Atmore.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 16, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service at First Methodist Church.
Burial will follow Friday, January 17, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Auburn Memorial Park, Auburn, Ala.
Memorial donations may be made to the “More Than Bricks Fund” at First Methodist Church of Atmore.
