Assassination attempt of President Trump

Congressman Jerry Carl

Saturday was a sad day for President Trump, the Trump family, and America because 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to assassinate President Trump at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. While many of the details are still not clear, investigators are working hard to continue uncovering the details and Crooks’ specific motives. By the grace of God, Trump survived this evil political violence, and this day will go down in history.
Miraculously, Crooks’ bullet grazed Trump’s ear – any closer and he likely would not be alive today. Secret Service agents worked almost instantaneously to get Trump off the stage to safety, and their diligent efforts kept Trump from further danger. Our brave law enforcement officers and Secret Service agents fulfilled their duties on Saturday, and we must always thank and support them.
His resilience is unsurprising – President Trump is a fighter. I greatly admire his strength, and we must remember who we want leading our nation. As the Secret Service ushered him down from the stage, Trump shouted “Fight!” with blood coming from his ear. His survival is vital for our nation, and he will continue the fight for the American People. With the state of our economy, the crisis at the southern border, and increasing threats abroad, President Trump is needed now more than ever to be back in the White House.
It is a miracle Trump is alive to continue his campaign for the presidency. The Far Left’s antics and demonization of President Trump have gone entirely too far. Republicans and President Trump have been the subject of false, targeted rhetoric that fuels hate and extreme political divide. When they could have just given up, Trump and his family have bravely persevered through years of unwarranted backlash and hate.
Though President Trump survived the shooting with an injury to his ear, we must also remember Corey Comperatore, who was innocently shot in the crossfire. Comperatore, a firefighter, dove in front of his family to take the bullets. Let us continue to pray for the Trump and the Comperatore family, as well as others who were injured in the crossfire as they heal and recover from this devastating tragedy.
Now is the time for all Americans – regardless of political affiliation – to come together and unite against political violence of any kind. It’s time to lower the temperature in this country and renew our shared commitment to fighting out our differences at the ballot box, rather than resulting to violence against one another. There is no place for violence of any kind in this country, and we must all strongly condemn any violence against our fellow Americans.
