Thomas Earl Hadley

Mr. Thomas Earl Hadley, age 59, passed away Monday, March 18, 2024 in Mobile, Ala. He was a lifelong resident of Perdido, Ala. He was a carpenter with many years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was consider to be a “mama’s boy”. His favorite past time was hunting, fishing and sitting back watching a good western.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roil Hadley; four brothers, Donnie Hadley; Steve Hadley; Melton Hadley; Leo Hadley and son-in law, Jay Kenny Milstid.

Mr. Hadley is survived by his mother, Mazie Joiner of Perdido; three daughters, Kelly Milstid of Pine Grove, Ala., Kyanne (James) Sheehan and Cheyanne Hadley, both of Perdido; four brothers, Lamar (Bernice) Hadley, of Perdido, and Tony (Syretha) Hadley of Mize, Miss., Mack (Tina) Hadley of Rabun, Ala. Gilbert Hadley of McCullough, Ala.; seven sisters, Darlene (Wendell) Stewart of Bay Minette, Pauline Weaver of Crossroads, Ala., Tammy Stewart, of Bay Minette, Ala., Daisy (Kenneth) Koenig of Brewton, Ala., Imogene Boyington of Atmore, Ala.; Louise (Louis) Brown of Nokomis, Ala., Lou Ann Johnson of Twin Falls, Idaho; five grandchildren, Ethan Powell, Skylyn Milstid, Gracelynn McCall, Kinsley Colbert, Raelynn McCall; one great-grandchild, Kingston Brown; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 22, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Funeral Homes Chapel with Rev. Henry Wilson, Sister Wanda Hadley and Sister, Helen Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Sullivan Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 21, 2024, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC.

Pallbearers will be Ethan Powell, Joseph Weaver, Ronnie Weaver, Shane Coleman, Shad Coleman, Norman Hadley, Steven Hadley and W M Stewart.

Laird Jackson Sharpe II

Mr. Laird Jackson Sharpe II (Jackson or Jack Sharpe), age 46, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 12, 2024.  He was born to the late Laird Jackson Sharpe I and Barbara Sharpe Jones.  He graduated from Thompson High School in Alabaster, Ala. and went on to study and graduate from Bessemer Tech in Bessemer, Ala. He was a longtime resident of Alabaster. His passion was for dogs, and he established Alabama Iron Pitbulls in 2003.  He bred and sold his beloved XXL Pitbulls all over the country and world. He was also a gifted mechanic and loved working on cars, building and restoring mustangs and monster trucks.

Mr. Laird is survived by his beloved mother, Barbara Jones of Hoover, Ala.; three siblings, April Sharpe, Amy Cook and Andrew Sharpe; nephew, Daniel Davis and nieces, Shelby and Emily Cook. 

Private services for family members will be held at a later time.  

Donations may be made in Jack’s honor to his favorite charity, Allie’s Hope for Paws Dog Rescue at 2124 Tidmore Bend Road, Gadsden, AL 35901.

James Calvin Bolton

Mr. James Calvin Bolton, age 92, of Walnut Hill, Fla., passed away Friday, March 22, 2024 in Atmore, Ala. He was born in Davisville, Fla. to Thomas Calvin and Hattie Winand Bolton. He attended First Baptist Church of Canoe, Ala. After graduating from Earnest Ward High School in Walnut Hill, James was employed by St Regis Paper Company in Cantonment, Fla. It was during this time that James accepted the Lord as his Savior. From that day until his last breath, he endeavored to live his life to the fullest to honor his Lord. 

He was an especially gifted musician.  He combined his talents with those of his family, singing Gospel Music throughout the South.  When not on the road singing, he was active in the church he was attending as a Deacon, song leader and Sunday school teacher. Whenever the opportunity arose, James was more than ready and willing to spread the message of salvation throughout the land. 

While raising a family and going to school at night, he became an accountant.  He was employed as an accountant first at Swift Lumber Company and then Southland Telephone Company in Atmore.  He later took a job with Port Saint Joe Railroad in Port Saint Joe, Fla. and then retired from Southern Erectors in Pensacola, Fla. 

He was a God fearing, loving husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather. He was quick to give praise and always smiling.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 72 years, Tiny Rigby Bolton; his grandson, Zachary Bolton and his brother, Joseph Bolton.

Mr. Bolton is survived by his children, Teresa Bolton (David) Brown of Atmore, James Anthony “Tony” (Kim) Bolton of Franklin, Tenn. and Terry Bolton of Pensacola, Fla.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 1a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Arnold Hendrix and Bro. Waylon Stuckey officiating. Interment will follow in Godwin Cemetery in Bratt, Fla.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 27, 2024 from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel.

Connie Lee Delmar Powell

Mrs. Connie Lee Delmar Powell, age 80, of Nokomis, Fla., passed away Sunday, March 24, 2024. She was born in Nokomis to James R. “Peter” and Pauline Henderson Lee. She was a member of Annie Jones Methodist Church.  She was a retired bus driver with the Escambia County Florida School District.  

She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter-in-law, Shamim Powell.

Mrs. Powell is survived by her husband, J.D. Powell; her children,  Lee Delmar of Walnut Hill, Mark (Sharon) Delmar of Atmore, Ala., Suzanne Delmar (James) Fordham of Huntsville, Ala., Samantha Delmar (Todd) Hubbard of Nokomis, Ala., Missy Powell and Dwayne Powell, both of Pensacola, Fla. and Chris (Michelle) Powell of Milton, Fla.; her brother, Jim (Susan) Lee of Nokomis; her grandchildren, James Lee Delmar, Ashleigh Delmar, Logan Delmar, Nick Delmar, Taylor Hubbard, Brayden Hubbard, Cecil Powell, Emmalee  Powell and Corey Powell, and her four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 3 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Charles Melvin officiating. Interment will follow in Walnut Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Brayden Hubbard, Joe Shaw, Todd Hubbard, Nick Delmar, James Fordman and Cecil Powell.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 27, 2024 from 2 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Flowers will be accepted but donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Roy Earl Hardy

Mr. Roy Earl Hardy, age 73, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024 after a valiant battle with dementia.  He was born in Columbus, Ga.  He resided in Atmore, Ala. the past 30 years. He was a veteran of the Mobile club circuit and many other venues around the South. He had performed with Austin’s All Stars, The City Limits Band, CC Lewis & The Midnite Groovers, Buddy Allen & The Fishstix, The Voxtones, The Big Dawgs, The Children, The Feel, Ricky Crook, Southfire, The Burns and Hardy Band, and other local bands in the area.  He had played with bands that opened for national acts such as Doug Supernaw, Billy Joe Royal, Wet Willie, The Gap Band, Ace Cannon, and Dan Seals. He had also been a backup drummer for Percy Sledge, Clarence Carter, Tracy Byrd and made an appearance at the Grand Ole Opry.  He covered a myriad of styles including soul, country, rock, and blues.  He provided a solid foundation for fellow musicians to build upon, yet, always remained humble about his talent as a drummer and vocalist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Fletcher Hardy and Mildred Inez Hardy.

Mr. Hardy is survived by his wife of thirty years, Julianna F. Hardy of Atmore; one daughter, Jodi Capan (JJ) of Phenix City, Ala.; his sisters, Ginger Fox of Columbus and Imogene Byrnes of Marietta, Ga.; his brothers, Keith (Lana) Hardy and Dennis Hardy, both of Columbus; his stepchildren, John F. Hawkins (Rachel) of Atmore, and Liz Kolbe (Jason) of Loxley, Ala.; his granddaughter, Jacksen Capan; his step-grandchildren, Will Hawkins, Kadence Kolbe and Hudson Kolbe and his forever fur baby, Zoey.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Jederian (J.D.) Carter

Mr.Jederian (J.D.) Carter of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, March 15, 2024 at Springhill Hospital in Mobile, Ala.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Gaines Chapel A.M.E. Church.

Joe Hazley

Mr. Joe Hazley, age 87, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, March 11, 2024 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital, Mobile, Ala. He was a lifelong resident of
Atmore. He was a member of Bethany Seventh Day Adventist Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nannie Gandy; two sisters, Ella Belle Jefferson and Nancy Williams; one brother, Harry Gandy and one great-grandson, Perry Malachi Beasley, II.

Mr. Hazley is survived by his wife of over sixty- years, Delois Hazley of Atmore; one son, Eddie (Kerrian) Hazley of Crestview, Fla.; six granddaughters, Kameko (Michael) McGuire of Navarre, Fla., Tanasha (Javarus) Walker of Jacksonville, Fla., Jacinda (Perry) Beasley of Avondale, Az., Bridge5t (Eric) Strasenburgh of Surprise, Az. and Eva and Karissa Hazley of Crestview, Fla.; three sisters, Sylvia Williams and Mozella Longmire, both of Atmore and Essie Johnson of Lorraine, Oh.; eight great-grandchildren and a plethora of nieces, nephews, friends and other loved ones.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 25, 2024 at 2 p.m. at New Beginning Christian Center with Pastor DeJuan Knight officiating. Interment followed at Stallworth Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his family and friends.
