An Atmore woman was charged with felony and misdemeanor drug offenses after city police, investigating the possible theft of a vehicle, pulled over the vehicle and found illicit substances inside.
The incident took place around 10:25 p.m. January 11, when a vehicle that had been reported stolen was spotted in the area of East Nashville Avenue and Medical Park Drive.
The vehicle was stopped, and officers contacted the driver, 29-year-old Cristen Tullis. A preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle had not been stolen and that Tullis had actually used the vehicle on several prior occasions.
However, a subsequent search of the vehicle yielded “approximately 1 gram of methamphetamine, approximately 1 gram of marijuana, two glass pipes with methamphetamine residue, and various items of drug paraphernalia.”
Tullis was released January 15 on bond from the Escambia County Detention Center (ECDC), where she had been booked on one count each of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and second-degree possession of marijuana.
Other felony arrests involving Atmore residents during the period January 12-19:
*Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a local woman January 15 on a felony drug charge.
No details were provided, but the ECDC website shows that Amy Michelle Ferrell, 38, is charged with one count each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Ferrell remained in jail Monday afternoon, January 22.
*No details were available, but ECDC records show that a local man was arrested January 13 on a felony drug charge.
Larry Wayne Barlow, 54, was released January 15 on bond from the ECDC, where he had been held on one count of possession of a controlled substance.
The jail website did not specify which agency made the arrest, and an APD spokesman said city police did not.
