Daniel Allen Currie, Jr.

Mr. Daniel Allen Currie, Jr, age 73, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023 in Atmore, Ala. He was a Fire Captain with the City of Atmore with many years of service. He enjoyed traveling with his family to New Orleans, La. and going to the mountains of Tennessee to the Tail of the Dragons. He was an avid model train collector and comic books. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a 2nd degree Black Belt in Taekwondo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Allen (Audie Marie) Currie, Sr.
Mr. Currie  is survived by his loving wife of thirty-three years, Rhechy Currie of Atmore; one son, Daniel Allen Currie III of Mobile, Ala.; one daughter, Sheena’ Marie (Jacob) Rosenbaum of Crestview, Fla..
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 2 p.m. at St. Roberts Catholic Church with Father Joseph Chacko officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family received friends Saturday, November 25, 2023 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC.
Pallbearers were Glenn Kelley, Wayne Kelley, Louis English, Daniel White, Eugene Edwards, and Daniel Currie III.

Alene Godwin Kelly

Mrs. Alene Godwin Kelly, age 80, passed away Monday, November 20, 2023 in Pensacola, Fla. She was born in Bay Minette, Ala. She had a passion for quilting and sewing, making many different things throughout the years. Crocheting and baking cakes was also a favorite past time

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Marion and Lois Jones Godwin; three brothers, Jesse Marion Godwin, Sonny Godwin and Stanley Godwin.
Mrs. Godwin is survived by her husband, Curtis J Kelly of Atmore, Ala.; two sons, Alan Kelly of Pensacola and Chris Kelly (Victoria) of Canoe, Ala; daughter, Janet James of Atmore; brother, Billy Joe Godwin of Miami, Fla.; four sisters, Bonnie Mae Wright and Betty Matthews, both of Bay Minette, Hilda Godwin and Marie Tuberville, both of Perdido, Ala.; six grandchildren, Derrek Gibson, Tori Gibson, Trinity Gibson, Daylin Gibson, Grace Kelly and Gabe Kelly; three great- grandchildren, Charity, Lilly and Maggie.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 27, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC. Burial will follow at Godwin Cemetery.

Robert Harold “Robbie” Massingill          

Mr. Robert Harold “Robbie” Massingill, age 48, of Brewton, Ala., passed away Friday,  November 17, 2023 in Texas. He was born to Robert Michael Massingill and Janey Ivey Smith. He served in the United States Navy and was in sales most of his life.  

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Michael Massingill.

Mr. Massingill is survived by his mother, Janey Ivey (Larry) Smith of Bay Minette, Ala.; his grandmother, Myrtle Stephens of Atmore, Ala.; his sisters, Charity Massingill of Bay Minette and Lydia (Michael) Olivier of Appling, Ga.; numerous family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 27, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel in Atmore. Interment will follow in Serenity Gardens in Atmore.

The family will receive friends Monday, November 27, 2023 from 10 a.m. until service time at 11a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Donald Mason Morris

Mr. Donald Mason Morris, age 76, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023 in Pensacola, Fla. He has resided in Jay, Fla. all his life and was a member of Ebenezer Church. He was a very skilled small engine repair man with many years of service. He really enjoyed fishing, gardening and never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie Arthur (Mary Elma) Morris; three brothers, Preston Morris, Ronnie Morris and Alton Morris.
Mr.  morris is survived by his loving wife of thirty-one years, Debra Morris of Berrydale, Fla.; two sons, Donald Jeremy (Shelby) Morris of Jay and Shaun Alan (Diana) Blake of Brewton, Ala.; one daughter, Melissa Darlene Lauria of Jay; one sister, Vivan (Phil) Klein of Pensacola; six grandchildren, Taylor (Shelby), Emily, Logan, Ashlyn, Maddie, Alice; two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Avery; special friend, Larry Dykes.
Funeral service will be held Friday, November 24, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Church with Rev. Bobby Carnley and Rev. Lavon Caraway officiating. Burial will follow at Walling Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday, November 24, 2023 from 1p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Church.

Dorothy Victoria Lynum-McCorvey

Mrs. Dorothy Victoria Lynum-McCorvey, age 93, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2023 in Mobile, Ala. She was born in Whatley, Ala. to the late Elijah and Redenia Lynum. Her spiritual journey began at St. Matthews Baptist Church. She attended Fort Madison Elementary School and later achieved the distinction of class valedictorian at Harper High School. Continuing her pursuit of knowledge, she graduated from Alabama State College, Mobile campus, laying the foundation for a lifetime of intellectual curiosity and achievement. She was an employee of Vanity Fair for thirty-years. She remained a faithful member of Greater Mount Triumph Baptist Church, where her commitment to her faith continued to shine until her passing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow McCorvey Sr.; son, Orlando McCorvey;  parents;  siblings, Elijah Jr., Madison, Benjamin, Hamilton, Jessie, Jane, Ida, Henrietta and Frank; one grandson, LeShaun McCorvey.

Mrs. McCorvey is survived by her children, Woodrow (Ann) McCorvey Jr., DeMarius Lynne (Stacey) Burrell and Rhonda McCorvey-McCants; grandchildren, Marlon (Brooke) McCorvey of Nashville, Tenn., Valarie McCorvey of Montgomery, Ala, LeVaun McCorvey,  Michael McCorvey and Victoria Baptiste, all of Pensacola, Fla., Hamilton (Shirle) McCorvey of Tampa, Fla., Ternessa Thomas of West Palm Beach, Fla., Orlando (Jen) McCorvey of Coral Springs, Fla. and Cleria McCants of Atmore; great-grandchildren, Aniya McCorvey of Atlanta, Ga., Kailynne McCorvey of Baltimore, MD, Gavynn McCorvey, Khloe’ McCorvey and Landon McCorvey all of Montgomery, Madison Thomas of West Palm Beach, Beau McCorvey of Nashville, Jordan McCorvey and Jaden McCorvey of Coral Springs; sister-in-law, Mary Ethel Crenshaw of San Francisco, Calif.; two godchildren, Felicia Lyons Drake and Bishop Lyons Jr., both of Huntsville, Ala., and a multitude of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

A celebration of life will take place Friday, November 24, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Greater Mount Triumph Baptist Church in Atmore. The commitment service will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla.

Cora “Voncile” Peters

Mrs. Cora “Voncile” Peters, age 91, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023 in Atmore, Ala. She was born in Mobile, Ala. and a native of Semirah Springs, Ala. and Uriah, Ala. area before moving to Atmore area the past 10 years.  She was 1st Tribal Elder Princess in 2014-2015. She attended Unity Baptist Church and was a member of Semirah Springs Freewill Baptist Church, the Order of Eastern Star, Huxford, Ala. and the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. Her passion was doing yard work especially tending to her flowers and loved going fishing. She enjoyed traveling, anywhere from Idaho, South Carolina, Japan and across the United States. Once retiring she spent a lot of time traveling with the tribal seniors, she was always ready to go when they were.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, W G (Cora Lee Woods) Murphy; two husbands, Jake Peters and Len Hyles; one brother, James “Buddy” Murphy.

Mrs. Peters  is survived by her one son, Chief (Linda) Peters of Atmore; four daughters, Sissy (Melvin) Wiggins of Goodway, Ala., June (Derris) Gregg of Atmore, Wanda (Johnny) Martin of Stapleton, Ala., Cathy (Greg) Pons, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one sister, Rita Ikner of Frisco City, Ala.; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Semirah Springs Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Long officiating.

Burial will follow at Semirah Springs Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at Semirah Springs Freewill Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Scotty McGhee, Kyle Wiggins, Mike Hughes, C.J. Smith, Jarod Martin and Justin Martin.
