Humphrey Lewis Shuford

Rev. Humphrey Lewis Shuford, age 77, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023. He was born in Wetumpka, Ala. to the late Robert L. Shuford and Rev. Cora Shuford. He was a 1964 graduate of W.B. Doby High School and he attended Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Ala. and Alabama State University. He was employed at Jefferson Davis Community College for thirty five years and retired as Dean of Adult & Technical Education. He served as Pastor of Zion Star AME Zion Church in Atmore and St. Thomas AME Zion Church in Perdido, Ala. for twelve years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Percival and Loretta K. Shuford, Rev. Charlene Shuford Miller and Alice Diane Smith; two brothers-in-law, Bishop Frank Bozeman and Rev. David Grant.

Rev. Shuford is survived by his wife of thirty-one years, Linda Shuford; four children, Pastors MiShondia (Vincent) Robinson of Mobile, Ala., LaSherrie Monique Shuford and Twanda Lynette Felder, both of Montgomery, Ala. and D. Taajah Witherspoon of Birmingham, Ala.; special son, Bishop Calvin Lewis of Kansas, Mo.; a son for life, Aleck Witherspoon of Birmingham; eight grandchildren, Darius Duncan, Kierstin Robinson, Kirah (Joe) Mugford and Kenney Robinson, Alexis Witherspoon, Taylor Managan, Mahari Long and Nkenge (Jarvis) Long-Eutsey; three great-grandchildren,  Jayden Duncan, Kenslei Wright and Jaiice Eutsey and Leila Long; seven brothers;  Dr. James W., Rev. Robert L (Anna), Paul (Margaret), Rev. Dr. Claude (Rev. Dr. Brenda), Charles (Keyosha) Shuford, Steve (Rose) Smith and Bobby (Precious) Smith; five sisters, Dr. Hurdis Bozean, Rev. Fagale Grant, Joyce (Jesse) Hall, Rebecca (Sony) Jackson an Mary (Isaac) McQueen; a host of  nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; three very special friends, Jerry Rosthchild, Otis Thames and William Stallworth.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 1p.m. at Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with Rev. Willie Hawthorne, Host Poster, Rev. Claude Shuford, Eulogist, Rev. Jean Archie, Officiating Pastor, Rev. Elizabeth McCaster, Presiding Elder, Mrs. Laurenna H. Crenshaw, Missionary Supervisor ad Bishop George D. Crenshaw, Presiding Prelate. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers and flower attendants were; his family and friends.

Steven Anthony Heathcock

Mr. Steven Anthony “Steve” Heathcock, age 69, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2023 in Pensacola, Fla. He was born in Houston, Texas and was a lifelong resident of Molino, Fla. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church where he greatly enjoyed his time worshipping the Lord. He never met a stranger and could always find someone to talk with. He never forgot a person he ever met and would strike up a conversation, no matter where he met them again. Going to help at the ballpark and hanging out at the Tom Thumb was something he spent countless hours doing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Luther (Christine Stewart) Heathcock.
Mr. Heathcock is survived by three sisters, Judie Carol (Dan) Holt of Cantonment, Fla., Carolyn Maxine (Richard) Marlow of Molino and Kathy Deloris Ringler of Xenia, Ohio; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 10, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC, with Reverend Kenneth Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow at Perdido Baptist Cemetery.

The family received friends Friday, November 10, 2023 from 1p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC.

Pallbearers were Cameron Marlow, Josh Stone, Johnny Ray Heathcock, Mike Carnley, CJ Bullington and Josh Lovvern.

Harold Rolin

Mr. Harold Rolin, age 70, of Poarch, Ala., passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023 in Poarch, Ala. He was born in Bratt, Fla., to the late Frank Rolin and Sissy Kelly Rolin. He was a dozier operator for over twenty years. He enjoyed spending his free time hunting, fishing, and going to the Wind Creek Casino. He was a member of Poarch Band of Creek Indians.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kat Rolin. 

Mr. Rolin is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Joyce Rolin of Poarch; sons, Joseph Rolin (Melody Boutwell) of Flomaton, Ala.  and Jonathon Rolin (Lacie Bundy) of Georgianna, Ala. ; grandchildren, Christopher Logan Rolin, Mary Jane Rolin, Deanna Rolin, Nathan James Rolin and Nola Rolin; great-grandchild, Derek James Andrews; brothers, Billy Wayne Rolin and Tony Rolin, both of Pollard-McCall, Ala., Jeff Rolin and Steve Rolin, both of Poarch; sister, Glendale Rolin of Century, Fla..

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 13, 2023, at 11a.m. at Dry Springs Community Church. Interment will follow at Dry Springs Cemetery in Enon, Fla.

Active pallbearers will be Christopher Logan Rolin, Justin Rolin, Jerry Capers, Henry Capers, John Victor, and Bill Stuckey. 

The family will receive friends Monday, November 13, 2023, from 10 a.m. until 11a.m. at Dry Springs Community Church in Enon.

Wilma L. Gladden Thomas

Mrs. Wilma L. Gladden Thomas, age 87, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Monday, November 6, 2023. She was born to the late Sara Thomas and Robert Gladden in Rock Hill, S. C. While living in Buffalo, N.Y. she was a member of the United Voices traveling over the Northeast giving concerts. In Buffalo she retired as a Supervisor in Banking with Marin Midland Bank. She was a member of a Bowling League and won several trophies and trips to various locations. Relocating to Atmore, Ala. she united with Mt. Gillead Missionary Baptist Church serving with the Missionary Society, a Sunday school scholar and member of the Senior Choir until her health failed. 

Mrs. Thomas is survived by her devoted husband, Bernard; son, Bernard, Jr. of Elmira, N.Y.; step-daughter, Dorothy Sam of Atmore; sisters-in-law, Betties (Edward) Adams and Barbara (Willie) Dukes, both of Atmore, Emsworth Thomas of East Orange, N.J., Ethel Thomas Johnson and Mary Boyd, all of Buffalo; one grandson, Christopher, Jr. Sams; three great-grandchildren, Amani, Amaya, Christopher, Jr. Sams, all of Stone Mountain, Ga.; a host of nieces, (one devoted) Yolanda Williams; nephews, cousins (one special) JoAnn Oats of Buffalo and friends; a loving neighbor and caretaker, Schemenia Reynolds.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Gillead Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Gregory Sanders, Pastor officiating. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery.

Vickie A. Boyette

Mrs. Vickie A. Boyette, age 66, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, November 12, 2023. She was born in Eustis, Fla. She was a member of the Church of the Living God in Atmore. She was a school bus driver with the Escambia County Alabama School System for eleven years.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elisha Edward Gay, Jr. and Lillian Odell Gay; her grandson, Griffin Parker Boyette and her sister, Voncile Burkett.  

Ms. Boyette is survived by her husband of over forty-eight years, Daniel Boyette of Atmore; her son, Mitchell (Amanda) Boyette of Saraland, Ala.; her brother, Charles Cole of Pensacola, Fla.; her sisters, Kim Reents and Lydia Fleming, both of Pensacola and Trudy Wilson of Milton, Fla. and her grandchildren, Peyton Boyette and Adaline Boyette.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Earl Harrison officiating.  Interment will follow in Serenity Gardens in Atmore.

Active pallbearers will be Donnie Macks, Terry Godwin, Deanna Macks, Brandon Stophel, Justin Morse and Brianna Pearson.

Patricia Ann Garrett

Mrs. Patricia Ann Garrett, age 80, passed away Monday, November 13, 2023 in Atmore, Ala. She was a native of Bury St. Edmonds, England and a resident of Atmore for the last sixty years. She was a sitter for many years. She enjoyed traveling with her family and baby- sitting her grandchildren. Her hobbies included reading, knitting, crocheting and watching soap operas. She also enjoyed arts, crafts and pottery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas (Joyce Winifred Edwards) Garrett; husband, Elvin “Bobby” Garrett and two sisters, Wendy and Sylvia Devers.

Mrs. Garrett is survived by her three daughters, Tracy (Jerry Wayne) Stuckey of McDavid, Fla., Ann (Shawn) Jones of Perdido, Ala. and Belinda (Shawn) Barnhill of Bethlehem, Penn.; three brothers, Billy Devers, Bobby Devers and Richard Devers, all of England; two sisters, Dorothy Devers and Maureen Watson, both of England; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 17, 2023 at 3 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC.
