LuAnn Moss McGhee

Mrs. LuAnn Moss McGhee, age 79, passed away Friday, October 27, 2023. She was born in Antigo, Wis. to the late Harold and Verna Moss. She was a lady of many occupations and interests with her favorites being a homemaker, reader and avid basketball fan.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-five years, Norvie Lee McGhee, Jr.; siblings, Tommy Moss, Donald Moss, Karen Moss McDougal and Doretta Moss.

Mrs. McGhee is survived by her four children, Robert McGhee (Tamara), Lynette McGhee Riggan (Kevin), David McGhee (Belinda) and Laurie McGhee Morgan (Derek); grandchildren, Jordan, Johnathan, Taylor, Hannah, Christopher, Tristan, Dalton, Alexandra, Katherine and Zoe; great-grandson, Dallas; and sister, Mary Beth Skidmore.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 11 a.m. at New Home Cemetery, Poarch, Ala.

The family will appreciate donations to Alzheimer’s Association.

Benny Dale Biggs

Mr. Benny Dale Biggs, age 84, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023 in Bay Minette, Ala.  He was born in Lottie, Ala. to John Henry Biggs and Mary Evelyn Smith Biggs. He attended Lottie United Methodist Church and served in the United States Army.  He farmed most of his life. He was an avid golfer and cherished his time hunting and fishing with his grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, John Leon Biggs, Henry Derwood Biggs and Charles William Biggs.

Mr. Biggs is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Ann Johnson Biggs; his daughters, Rebecca (Bruce) Moore of Brewton, Ala., Tracy (Robert) Lambrecht of Birmingham, Ala. and Vicky Dale Biggs of Lottie; his sister, Evelyn Ann Biggs (Mike) Williams of Brewton, Ala. and his grandchildren, Nick (Maria) Moore, Emily Moore, Laura Leigh Moore, Bryce Lambrecht, John Brady and Catherine Brady.

Graveside services will be held Monday, November 6, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at Lottie United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Kailey Beth Smith and Bro. Robert Hughes officiating.  Interment will follow in Lottie United Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Honors.

The family will receive friends Monday, November 6, 2023 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore.

Jimmy Ray Gregson

Mr. Jimmy Ray Gregson, age 57, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023 at his home in Excel, Ala. He was a native of Uriah, Ala. and a resident of Excel the last twenty-eight years. He was a skilled carpenter for many years. He enjoyed riding his buggy all over town and spending time with his family, especially the holidays. He was an avid prankster and enjoyed drinking Coca-Cola. He loved hunting in his younger years and watching wrestling.

He was preceded in death by his father, Oneal Gregson; three brothers, Larry Gregson, Bobby Hill and Marty Gregson.

Mr. Gregson is survived by his mother and step-father, Shirley (Sam) Hill of Mineola, Ala.; four sons, J.J. Gregson of Bay Minette, Ala., Cecil Aldridge of Uriah, Dalton Gregson and Tyler Gregson, both of Monroeville, Ala.; one daughter, Emily McLain of Leakesville, Miss.; three brothers, Bryan Hill of Mineola, Ala., Casey (Leslie) Gregson of Excel, Samuel Hill, of Washington; six sisters, Betty (Jerry) Hoffman of Spanish Fort, Ala., Paula (David) Hudson of Rabun, Ala., Vicky (Toney) McMillian of Uriah, Holly (Mark) Peacock of Frisco City, Ala., Gretta (Mike) Dailey of Goodway, Ala. and Cheryl Brooks of Bay Minette, Ala.; numerous grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 6, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC. with Rev. Wayne McMillian officiating. Burial will follow at Mineola Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday, November 6, 2023 from Noon until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC.

Pallbearers will be Toney McMillian, Ricky Jennings, Michael Jeter, Austin Jennings, Dilion Hudson, and Blake Hoffman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Hayles, Jarod Richerson, Curtis Williams, and Jerry Williamson.

Kimberly Denise Smith

Mrs. Kimberly Denise Smith, age 5, passed away Friday, November 3, 2023 in Atmore, Ala. She was born in Chicago, Ill. and has resided most of her life in Atmore.  She was a member of First Assembly of God Church. She really enjoyed working alongside her husband. She liked going shopping and was an avid Alabama Football Fan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James (Wanda Cash) Brooks; one brother, Randy Brooks.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her loving husband of twelve years, Jerry Smith of Atmore; one sister, Ebony Brooks of Tenn.; nieces, nephews; and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. with Rev. Don Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Nell Tennant Thomas

Mrs. Nell Tennant Thomas, age 89, passed away Monday, November 6, 2023 in Uriah, Ala. She was born in Atmore, Ala.to the late Alton (Florence McKenzie) Tennant.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Atmore. She worked at Atmore Community Hospital with many years of service. Her favorite things to do were gardening, fishing and hunting.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. J. B. Thomas; two brothers, Harold Tennant and Curtis Tennant and one daughter, Sara Transou Patrick.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by her one daughter, Terri (Tim) Turner of N. C.; best friend and care taker, Mandy Matthews of Atmore; special friend, Sharon Dinovo of Uriah; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC. with Dr. Kevin Garrett officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Ms. Linda (Faye) Carter of Flomaton, Ala., passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2023 in Pensacola, Fla.

Peggy Louise Norton

Mrs. Peggy Louise Norton, age 89, of Atmore, Ala., passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 in Atmore. She was born in Emmet, Ark. to the late Roy Clifton and Leola Tomkins McBrayer.  She was a lifetime member of Presley Street Baptist Church. She owned and operated Guy’s and Doll’s beauty salon for many years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Lloyd Norton; son, Dale Wayne Brown and siblings, Margaret Joy Knight and James “Jimmy” Edward McBrayer.

Mrs. Norton is survived by her three daughters, Pamela Kay (David) Hildebrand of Texarkana, Texas, Karen (Clifton) Blackburn and Terry Kirby Colbert, both of Atmore; stepchildren, Shane (Sharon) Norton of Palm Springs, Calif., Bryant (Jody) Norton of Woodville, Wash. and Lucinda (Brad) Johnson of Utah; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sister, Nelda McCool and brother, Bob McBrayer.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, November 9, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at McCullough Cemetery in McCullough, Ala. Interment will follow in McCullough Cemetery.
