The Fort Mims Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, was hostess for the annual Baldwin County DAR Flag Day luncheon which was held at Stockton Presbyterian Church June 14.
Fort Mims Regent Sharon Murphy welcomed the guests from chapters Bon Secour, Ecor Rouge, Ft. Boyer, and Zachariah Godbold, as well as the Alabama Society Daughters of the American Revolution State Regent Patrice Donnelly, who brought greetings to the group.
Zachariah Godbold Chapter, which was formed from members from Fort Mims Chapter, was celebrating their 70th birthday and was recognized. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Diane Wallace, the American’s Creed, led by Nancy Karrick, and the blessing offered by Marilyn Davidson, members were served a delicious salad plate consisting of chicken salad, English pea salad, marinated string bean salad, boiled shrimp, and a croissant, followed by birthday cake honoring the birthday chapter.
The program, which was planned by Diane Wallace and led by Claudia Campbell, focused on the history of some of our patriotic songs, with members having a chance to join in and sing each song after it was presented. Following a reading of the poem “I Am Your Flag,” closing remarks, and the benediction by Mary Flo Williams, members and guests had a chance to mingle and visit with each other. Fifty DAR members were present for the annual event. Fort Mims members from Atmore attending were Linda Ellison, Cathy Irby, and Nancy Karrick.
