Sylvia J. Harrell

Harrell

Mrs. Sylvia J. Harrell, age 82, of Atmore, Ala., passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023.  She was born in Bratt, Fla. to Otis A. and Jessie “Catherine” Byrd Barnes. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Aubrey Ray Harrell, Sr.; her son, Donald Barnes and her siblings, Sylvester Barnes, Hollis Terry Barnes, Henry E. “Pete” Barnes, Wyvonne Barnes, Barbara Hendrix and Opal Morris.

Mrs. Harrell is survived by her children, Aubrey Ray Harrell, Jr., Jeffrey Rey Harrell, Sharon Kay Murell and Brenda Renee Harrell; her sister, Zelma Emory; her grandchildren; her great- grandchildren and her nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ricky Peebles officiating.

Charlotte Presley McGhee

McGhee

Mrs. Charlotte Presley McGhee, age 67, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2023 in Pensacola, Fla. She was born in Atmore, Ala. and has resided the last twenty-two years in Pensacola. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church serving as a Greeter for fifteen years. She enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren. She loved shopping thrift stores and yard sales and going to the beach. She was an avid New Orleans Saints Fan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David Franklin Presley and Margaret English Peavy and one special niece, Brandy Morris.
Mrs. McGhee is survived by her loving husband of fifty years, Jack Allen McGhee of Pensacola; two daughters, Venus (James) Prince and Taris (Chris) Wickizer, all of Pensacola; three sisters, Shelia (Jerry) Johnson of Nokomis, Ala., Sherry Lovell of Atmore, Jackie (Rodney) Stewart of Perdido, Ala.; four grandchildren, Alexus(Wilmer) Nunez, Layne Wickizer, Aya Prince, Amara Prince; two great-grandchildren, Halle Nunez, Daniela Nunez; two nieces, Shelli Doremus, Geri (Olan) Albritton, and children.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 3, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. with Rev. Jim Locke officiating. Burial will follow at Judson Creek Indian Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, February 3, 2023, from 10 a.m. until service time at 11a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC.

Steven Craig “Steve” Morris

Mr. Steven Craig “Steve” Morris, age 57, of Atmore, Ala., passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 in Pensacola, Fla.  He was born in Atmore to John and Lois Overstreet Morris. He was a member of Dry Spings Community Church. During his career, Steve served ten years with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, sixteen years with the Atmore Police Department, and two years with the Flomaton Police Department. He was an avid fisherman and hunter who especially loved his family. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Rita Dunn. 

Mr. Morris is survived by his wife, Kristina Todd Morris; his sons, Steven Morris, Jr. (Angie) and Jordan Lassitter (Taylor Sims), all of Atmore and Dylan Lassitter (Shawnee McGee) of Poarch, Ala.; his sisters, Elaine McKinley of Atmore and Patti Prater of Newnan, Ga. and his grandchildren, Britton Morris, Weston Morris, Amelia Morris Ryleigh Lassitter and Blakelyn Lassitter.  

Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 3 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with Bro. John Spence officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. 

Active pallbearers will be his fellow police officers. 

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

James Edgar “Jim” Walker

Walker

Mr. James Edgar “Jim” Walker, age 72, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023 in Atmore, Ala. He resided most of life in Atmore where he loved working in pharmacy as a local and surrounding area pharmacist for fifty plus years. He loved helping people and enjoyed spending time and interacting with all the children they kept and babysat for. He loved to grow fruit trees and seeing them produce. He enjoyed sitting down to watch all the “Good Ole Oldies Shows” such as, Andy Griffith, Mash, and numerous others like, Wagon Train, and Les Feldick.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar (Faye Dudley) Walker; wife, Margaret Farr Walker; two sisters, Marsha Campbell and Nancy Hammonds.

Mr. Walker is survived by his loving wife of twenty-three years, Suzette C. Walker, of Atmore; two sons, John Michael (Charis) Walker of Montgomery, Ala. and Lucas H. Moye of Atmore; one step-son, Dillon (Lindsey) Conway of Century, Fla.; one sister, Cindy Nelson of Midfield, Ala.; three grandchildren, Ethan James Walker, Evelyn Jane Walker, Everlee Ella Conway; his extra grandchildren, Marlie, Sarah, Alyssa, Mason, Kinsley, Miles, Ridge, Grey, and Tony.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. with Rev. Ricky Tedder officiating. Burial will follow at Serenity Gardens Cemetery.

Ashley Curry

Curry

Ms. Ashley Curry, age 30, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023. She was born in Atmore to William Edwards, Jr. and Marsha Curry. She was a proud 2012 graduate of Escambia County High School. She began her Christian experience at an early age in her family church, Mt. Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Nokomis, Ala. She later joined Empowerment Tabernacle Christian Center. She worked alongside her mother, Marsha Curry, as a tax preparer.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Woodrow Curry and uncle, Kenny Curry. In the midst of her transition, her uncle Steven Curry joined her Monday, January 30, 2023 to meet her in the cloud of host.

Ms. Curry is survived by her mother, Marsha Curry of Atmore; father, William Edwards, Jr. of Brewton, Ala; her one and only precious princess, Cyn`Naria Boggan; a special companion, Kentrae Boggan of Atmore; siblings, Telvin Curry, Rashad Dixon, Samantha Dixon, Willie Edwards and Judayah Edwards; grandparents, Cathion Curry of Walnut Hill, Fla.,  Demeatress Edwards of Brewton and  grandfather, William Edward, Sr.; very special devoted aunt, Jeannie (Joe) Ferrell of Atmore and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Empowerment Tabernacle Christian Center with Bishop Catadro North, Eulogist and Pastor Danny Fountain, officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday, February 3, 2023 from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Pallbearers will be her cousins and friends.

Floral attendants will be the Class of 2012, family and friends.

Albert Nichols

Mr. Albert Nichols, age 81, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, January 22, 2023. He was born in Monroeville, Ala. to the late Minnie Bell and Joe T. Nichols. He joined St. Paul Baptist Church in Uriah, Ala. early in life and then later Antioch Baptist Church in Freemanville, Ala. He was employed with Scott Paper Company for twenty-one years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Joe Louis Nichols, Eddie Lee Nichols, Samuel Lee Nichols, Will and Willie Nichols.

Mr. Nichols is survived by his wife, Rebecca Mallard Nichols; his daughters, Katie Lee and Rebecca Ann Nichols; one grandson, David Alexander Nichols; brothers, Allen Nichols of Atmore, Larry Nichols (Dorothy) of Uriah, Earnest Nichols of Detroit, Mich., Robert Earl Nichols (Darnell) of Atmore; sisters, Mary Ann Roberts-Davis (Abraham Davis) of Atmore, Ellaweese Smith, Hattie Louise Martin, both of Milwaukee, Wisc., Willie Mae Nichols of Pensacola, Fla. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends of the family.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Wilson officiating. Interment followed at Stallworth Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Deacon Robert Earl Nichols, Allen Nichols, David Nichols, Larry Nichols and nephews.

Gloria York Ledkins

Mrs. Gloria York Ledkins, age 85, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023, in Atmore, Ala. She was a lifelong resident of Atmore and a member of Presley Street Baptist church for many years.
She loved spending time with her family, reading and watching TV especially “Gone with The Wind”. She enjoys putting together puzzles and loves to sew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Eugene (Mae Blanche Stringfellow) York; husband, Ronald Ledkins; two brothers, Harold York, Claude York, and one sister, Doris Haynie.
Mrs. Ledkins is survived by her one brother, Ronald “Ronnie” (Phyllis) York, of The Rock, Ga.; two sisters, Betty (James) Amerson and Peggy Mauldin, all of Bratt, Fla.; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Graveside service will be held Thursday, February 2, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Godwin Cemetery with Rev. Ted Bridges officiating. Burial will follow at Godwin Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, February 2, 2023 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC.

Jeremy Jay Forney

Mr.Jeremy Jay Forney, age 38, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Mobile Infirmary, Mobile, Ala. He was born to Rosalyn and Larry Forney, Sr. in Atmore. He was known for his smile, thoughtfulness and outgoing and jokester spirit. He loved to travel and enjoy the best of culinary skills. Above all he loved his nieces, nephews and all children who may have encountered his presence.

Mr. Forney is survived by his mother, Rosalyn Forney of Robertsdale, Ala.; father, Larry (Mechelle) Forney, Sr. of Atmore; six siblings, Clifton (Xavier) Forney of Jacksonville, Fla., Tonotta Williams, Jerome (Jeremy’s twin) Forney, Larry Forney, Jr., Timothy McReynolds, all of Atmore and Tiffany McReynolds of Mobile, Ala.; special friend, Latavis Thomas of Bay Minette, Ala. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Greater Mt. Triumph Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Willie Hawthorne, Pastor and Rev. Dr. Joe L. Hayes, Presider. Inhumation followed at Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers and floral attendants were his family and friends.
