Atmore police arrested a Century, Fla., man January 14 after two incidents during which he chased another vehicle along a city street, each time firing several shots at it.
Sgt. Darrell McMann, public information officer for Atmore Police Department, reported that officers were sent around 8:30 p.m. to the Brooks Lane area in response to a report of shots fired. They were sent to the same area the next morning around 11 a.m.
APD investigators were able to identify the suspect as 20-year-old Emonee Demontae Long. Long apparently remained in the area or returned on January 14, police recognized his vehicle as the one used in each incident and took him into custody without incident. Unspecified evidence was recovered from inside the vehicle.
Long is charged with two counts of first-degree attempted assault, two counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, and two counts of reckless endangerment.
McMann said Long also has a pending second-degree rape charge that stems from an incident in 2020. He wasn’t arrested at the time of that incident due to his alleged involvement with a murder in Century during the same time period.
APD detectives have now obtained an arrest warrant for Long in reference to that incident.
Long was booked into the Escambia County Detention Center, from which he was later released on bond.
