Rickey Edward McGhee

McGhee

Mr. Rickey Edward McGhee, age 69, of Poarch, Ala., passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2023. He was born to Curtis Edward and Pearline Daughtry McGhee. He was a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and a sheet metal worker for the Civil Service. He served in the United States Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lori Patterson McGhee; his grandchild, Alayna Blaire Knowles and his grandparents, Chief Calvin and Joyce McGhee, and Jack and Nora Daughtry. 

Mr. McGhee is survived by his sons, Justin (Cassandra) McGhee and Dylan Zane McGhee, both of Poarch; his daughter, Ariel McGhee of Canoe, Ala.; his siblings, Rose Coon, Carrie (Randy) Martin and Charlene McGhee, all of Poarch and Tony McGhee of Pensacola, Fla.; six grandchildren, Miriah, Skylee, Rhea, Trinity, Nora and Rickey. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 6, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Friendly Holiness Church in Poarch with Bro. Ralph Coleman and Bro. Ray Ward officiating. Interment will follow in New Home Cemetery with military honors. 

Active pallbearers will be Clayton Coon, Samuel Bostic, Curtis Hayes, Homer Coleman, Kenny Coleman and Doyle Coleman. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Rolin, Kenneth “Radio” Rolin, Walter Lee Rolin, Jason Ward, Matt Wilson and Earl Simmons. 

The family will receive friends Friday, January 6, 2023 from Noon until service time at 2 p.m. at Friendly Holiness Church.

Joyce Marie Lancaster Mothershed

Mrs. Joyce Marie Lancaster Mothershed, age 84, passed away Friday, December 23, 2022 in Century, Fla. She resided most of her life in Atmore, Ala. and attended Mennonite Christian Fellowship. She retired from Vanity Fair Mills with many years of employment. She enjoyed listening to music especially gospel music.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin G. (Ruby Lee) Lancaster and her husband, Rev. James Gladyn Mothershed.

Mrs. Mothershed is survived by her daughter, Lisa Mothershed James, of Fla.; one granddaughter, Alyssa McCoy of Maryland; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 7, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC with Rev. Blaine Copenhaver officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Donald Branum

Mr. Donald Branum, age 85, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023 in Atmore. He was born to Ralph Edward Branum and Doris Griffin Boggan.  He served in the United States Air Force until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty Jo Branum. 

Mr. Branum is survived by his daughters, Tracey Harting and April Alford; his stepdaughters, Tifiney Lavoie, Beverly Townsend and Wendy Locklin; his brother, Billy Branum; his sister, Jewel Hadley and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. 

Graveside services will be held Monday, January 9, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with Bro. Austin Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Henry Eugene Hill

Mr. Henry Eugene Hill, age 74, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023 in Pensacola, Fla.  He was born in Little River, Ala. to Joseph Columbus Hill, Sr. and Tlithia Edna Dannell Hill.  He served in the United States Marine Corps and was a roofer at Pensacola Naval Air Station until his retirement. He loved to play bluegrass music and the fellowship of friends and family. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, James “Bo” Hill, Joseph C. Hill, Jr., Charles E. Hill and Margaret “Sweety” Hill Davis. 

Mr. Hill is survived by his wife of thirty-four years, Sharon Rae Newton of Atmore, Ala.; his sister, Martha Hill of Atmore and many nieces and nephews. 

No formal services are scheduled at this time.

Claudia Jean Morris Dawson

Mrs. Claudia Jean Morris Dawson, age 78, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023, in Atmore, Ala. She was a lifelong resident of Atmore. She was a bookkeeper for H&D Construction with her husband for many years. She enjoyed listening to music, and keeping up with her friends on Facebook. She enjoyed going to the mountains, her quiet time studying scripture, reading and quoting it.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude John (Alvie Etheridge) Morris; husband, Bill Dawson; two sisters, Carolyn (Harold) Davis, Jeanette Stewart and one brother-in law, Silas Ganey.

Mrs. Dawson is survived by her two daughters, Lisa (Mike) Holt of Flomaton, Ala. and Marcy (Tim) McAnally of Atmore; one sister, Voncille Ganey of Stockton, Ala.; four grandchildren, Jordan Barnett, Lauren (Alex) Klyczek, Nolan (Tyler) McAnally, Tristan (Hannah) McAnally; five great-grandchildren, Landon Barnett, Luke Barnett, Ava Ray Klyczek, Nikko McAnally, Harlow McAnally; one brother-in law, Iria Martin Stewart of Bay Minette, Ala.; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 8, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. with Sister Helen Stewart and Rev. Ricky Tedder officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Level Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC.

Willie Lewis Kent

Mr. Willie “Bro” Lewis Kent, age 72, of Castleberry, Ala., passed away Monday, December 26, 2022. He was born to the late Alonza Sr. and Katie Bell Kent. He was educated in the Conecuh County School System. He was a member of Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Willie Charles Kent, Wilbert Kent, Charles Ray Kent Robert Lee Kent and one sister, Katie Greer.

Mr. Kent is survived by three sisters, Lillie Ruth Allen of Brewton, Ala., Annie Ruth Miller of Mobile, Ala. and Barbara Kent of Nashville, Tenn.; two brothers, Alonzo Kent of Evergreen, Ala., Mark Kent of Omaha, Neb.; two aunts, Annie Hopkins and Sara Samuel and a host of nieces, nephews and o0ther relatives.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Duran Odoms, Pastor officiating. Burial followed at Sandy Grove Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his nephews and friends.

Flower bearers were his nieces and friends.

Debra Jackson                                                 

Ms. Debra Jackson, age 60, of Milton, Fla., passed away Monday, December 26, 2022. She was born to Roos3evelt sr., and Doris Johnson in Atmore, Ala. Leaving Atmore, She spent time in Pahokee, Fla. and Leesburg, Fla. Relocating to Milton, Fla., she worked as a housekeeper at the University of West Florida and Santa Rose Health Rehab. He loved simple things about like, like spending time with her grandkids. Wherever she was it was a guarantee of Laughter and fun.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Rickey.

Ms. Jackson by her fiancé Ulrick Renaince; one daughter, Jennifer (Muggren Murphy) Jackson; one son, Robert (Allison) Johnson; seven grandchildren, Jabre, Lennox, Adrian, Samara, Jaylynn, Kiana and Muggren, Jr.; one sister, Barbara Johnson; three brothers, Roosevelt Johnson, Jr., Carl Montgomery, both of Milton, Fla. and Norris Montgomery of Phoenix City, Ala.; one special niece, Tamir Stallworth aka, toot-toot and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Noon with Rev. Harold Askew officiating. Interment followed in Fairview Cemetery.

Barry Keith Grace

Mr. Barry Keith Grace, age 43, of Evergreen, Ala., passed away Monday, December 26, 2022 at Evergreen Medical Center. He was born in Brewton, Ala. to Wiley and Pearlean Grace. He played all sports during his school years a Repton Junior and Hillcrest High School. He worked with G.A. West and Tenax. He was known as the #l Pit Master among his family and friends. He also enjoyed fixing engines. He was a member of Belleville Faulk A.M.E. Zion Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Evelyn ‘Lean” Sanders, Hilary Grace, Sr. and Evie Dee Grace.

Mr. Grace is survived by his wife, Qunithia Grace; son, Braelyn Grace of Castleberry; parents; brothers, Earnest (Shenill) Grace of Castleberry, Seneca (Crystal) Grace of Brewton, Ala.; mother-in-love, Cynthia Malone; one brother-in-love, Timothy Malone; two nieces, Shanaya Grace, Kaliyah Grace; three nephews, Xazier Grace, Austin Grace and Kylon Grace; one God-daughters, Arnecia Anderson; two devoted friends, David Thomas and Larry Reynolds and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and the Belleville Faulk A.M..E. Fairrel Dreadin

Mr. Fairrel Dreadin, age 90, of Flomaton, Ala., passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2022.

His heart was his family, the only thing he loved more was his Lord and Savior. He also loved hunting, fishing, and gardening.

Mr. Dreadin is survived by his two children, Mary K. Ross of Elgin, Scotland and Fairrel Keith (Linda) Dreadin of Scottsboro, Ala.; three grandchildren, Cameron (Brittany) Dreadin and Amy (Jeremy) Morris, all of Pace, Fla. and Melissa Dreadin, of Collinsville, Okla.; eight great- grandchildren and other relatives. 

Graveside services were held Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Flomaton Cemetery with Rev. Doug Odom officiating.

Patricia LaCoste Gibson

Mrs. Patricia LaCoste Gibson, age 82 passed away Thursday, January 5, 2023, in Hammond, La. She was a former resident of Century, Fla. and has resided in Ponchatoula, La. since 1997. She was caregiver in the health care field for many years. She was a member of Mike Vaughn Good News Fellowship Ministry in Tickfaw, La. She valued the time she had to spend with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed reading the bible and attending church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Cameron (Paralee Merchant) LaCoste; husband, Herbert Gibson, Sr; three sons, Kenneth Scott, Danny Gibson, Michael Small; one grandson, Anthony Small; one great-grandson Caden Grosskurth; five brothers, Russell LaCoste, Howard LaCoste, Melvin LaCoste, Lewis LaCoste, Ronnie LaCoste and one sister, Elsie Alred.

Mrs. Gibson is survived by her one son, Herbert Gibson, Jr. of Bedico, La.; one daughter, Patsy Gibson of Tickfaw; four grandchildren, Herbert Gibson III, Derek Grosskurth, Tamula Grosskurth Kuffner, Austin Small; six great-grandchildren, Kayne Dwyer, Nevaeh Grosskurth, Aiden Viola, Tonya Small, Avaya Small, Carson Small; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Ruby Lois Cooper

Mrs. Ruby Lois Cooper, age 88, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2023, in Pensacola, Fla. She resided most of her life in Cantonment, Fla. She retired from health care with many years of service. She was a member of Farmhill Holiness Church. She enjoyed working in her vegetable garden, sharing her crop of vegetables and loved cooking the fresh vegetables. She enjoyed gospel music and Christian Television Network. She really enjoyed going to the mountains and attending church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie (Emma Presley) Ardis; husband, Johnny Cooper; one son, Warren Dean Cooper and one brother, Grady Ardis.

Mrs. Cooper is survived by her two sons, John (Lisa) Dale of Atlanta, Ga., and Daniel (Debra) Cooper of Seminole, Ala.; two daughters, Wanda Massey and Pamela Cooper, both of Cantonment; two brothers, Hubert (Alice) Ardis of Wimberly, Texas and Danny (Renee) Cole of Baton Rouge, La.; one sister, Emogene (Johnny) Wood of Talladega, Ala.; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces, and other relatives.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Noon at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC with Bro. Clyde Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Presley Cemetery.
