A pair of eighth-grade student athletes from Escambia Academy turned in impressive performances in last week’s AISA Junior High Invitational cross-country meet.
Danny Doerr placed third overall in the boys 3.219-kilometer (two mile) run, posting a time of 12 minutes and 9.47 seconds, while Alexis Strength finished the course in 17 minutes and 13.45 seconds to finish 12th overall in the girls competition.
The finish represented Strength’s personal best time to date.
Doerr’s finish in the preliminary competition propelled him into the state championship, held October 12 at Kiesel park in Auburn, where he completed the course in a time of 20:58.76 to finish sixth overall in the 5,000-meter race.
