Leslie E. Guelsby

Mr. Leslie E. Guelsby, age 66, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, September 9, 2022 in Atmore, AL. He was born at Moody Air Force Base, Ga. to James Cecil and Patsy Patch Gulsby. He served in the Army National Guard and was an electrician with Engels. 

He was preceded in death by his father; his sister, Vicki Lynn Jordan and his nephew, Michael Scott “Scotty” Jordan.

Mr. Guelsby is survived by his mother, Patsy Patch Gulsby; his brother, David Gulsby and his nephew, Casey Jordan.

A memorial graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with Bro. Don Sanks officiating. Inurnment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. 

Rose Mary Madison Davis

Davis

Mrs. Rose Mary Madison Davis, age 79, of Wetumpka, Ala., passed away Thursday, September 15, 2022 at her residence. She was born in Fairhope, Ala. to Charlie Hybart and Daisy Louellan Dyal Madison. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints.  She was employed by the State of Alabama Department of Corrections until she retired. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Oscar Davis; her sister, Gaylyn Madison Miller and brother, Charlie Dayton Madison. 

Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughter, Pamela Lusk Andersson (Thomas); grandson, Davis Andersson; her brother, Rodger A. Madison (Michelle); her sister, Robin Madison Sullivan and many nieces and nephews. 

Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Semirah Springs Cemetery with Bro. Andy Akins officiating. Interment will follow in Semirah Springs Cemetery in Jeddo, Ala.

Cary Ellis West

Mr. Cary Ellis West, age 85, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2022, in Atmore, Ala. He was a lifelong resident of Atmore. He owned his own car dealership, selling automobiles in the Atmore area for over thirty years. He was a member of Christian Home Freewill Baptist Church.

He enjoyed going fishing and auctions, tending to his cows, pigs and goats. He always loved a good trip to the mountains.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Zolena O’Farrell West; one son, Cary West, Jr. and one sister, Inez Knowles.

Mr. West is survived by one son, Cary Dewayne West of Spanish Fort, Ala.; two daughters, Penny Michelle Gulledge of Bay Minette, Ala. and Pam Mashane (Jon) Moore of Atmore; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn West, Nicholas Morgan, Robert Donald Turner III, Victoria Dean Turner, John L. Gulledge III, Jillian Gulledge; five great-grandchildren, Penelopi Morgan, Laney Morgan, Layla Simmons, Dakota Hadley, Isabella Whatley; special cousin, Patricia O’Farrell, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, September 25, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. with Rev. Wendell Hadley officiating.

The family will receive friends Sunday, September 25, 2022 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Homes, LLC.

David Hamilton Stewart

Mr. David Hamilton Stewart, age 77, of Perdido, Ala., passed away Saturday, September 17, 2022 at his residence. He was born in Perdido, Ala. to T.C. and Catherine Stewart.  He served in the Army National Guard and was a truck driver with McPherson Oil Company. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carolyn Stewart and nine siblings. 

Mr. Stewart is survived by his daughters, Michelle (Anthony) Kimbler of Robertsdale, Ala. and Dana (Wesley) Cooley of Bay Minette, Ala.; his brother, L.C. (Linda) Stewart of Stockton, Ala.; his sister, Lizzie Bell Skipper of Huxford, Ala.; his grandchildren, Alanna (Donald) Newton and Adrian (Celeste) Cooley; his great grandchildren, Melody Newton, Everleigh Cooley and Liam Cooley. 

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at Noon at Bryars-McGill Cemetery in Perdido. Interment will follow at Bryars-McGill Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore, Ala.

Shenika German, native of Camden, Ala. and resident of Atmore (Freemanville Community, Ala., passed away Thursday, September 15. 2022 at her home.

Anthony “A.J.” Matthews, Jr.
Mr. Anthony “A.J.” Matthews, Jr., age 27, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2022 in Montgomery, Ala.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Stallworth Cemetery.

Miriam Ruth “Ruthie” McGhee
Ms. Miriam Ruth “Ruthie” McGhee, age 56, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2022 in Atmore, Ala. She was a resident of Poarch, Ala. most of her life and was a proud member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. She was a member of the Dyas Assembly of God Church. She loved her heritage and always loved to travel. She was a”2022” contestant for the Elder Princess Contest. She obtained the qualifications to become a Tribal Artisan for her beadwork. Her passion was watching her family during NAYO and NASA and many other sporting events.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton Jackson and Julia Ann McGhee; grandmother, Lunie Mae McGhee; three aunts, Hattie Mae (Howard) McGhee, Marie (Otha) Martin, Frances (Billy) Robbins, and one uncle, John Arthur McGhee.

Ms. McGhee is survived by her two sons, Heath (Heather) Wiggins of Excel, Ala. and Nolan (Alex) Wiggins of Gulf Shores, AL; one daughter, Taylor Wiggins of Poarch; two brothers, Rodney McGhee of Atmore, Ala. and Lathaniel (Pam) McGhee of Pensacola, Fla.; two sisters, Juliette (Larry) Haikey of Poarch and Stephanie (Keith) Bryan of Atmore; two aunts, Ellen “Maxine” Johnson and Bernice McGhee, all of Poarch; ten grandchildren, Aubree Wiggins, Parker Wiggins, Knox Wiggins, McCoy Wiggins, Karsyn Wiggins, Rush Wiggins, Brantley Wiggins, Charlie Wiggins, Jackson Newton, Molly Ann Newton, plus granddaughter Wiggins on the way; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at Judson Creek Indian Cemetery with Rev. Don Sanks officiating. Burial will follow at Judson Creek Indian Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Nolan Wiggins, Rodney McGhee, Logan McGhee, Jeremy McGhee, Brannon Sanspree, and Chase Amerson.

Peggy Mathis McDonald
Mrs. Peggy Mathis McDonald, age 69, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2022 at her home in Century, Fla. She was lifelong resident of Century. She retired from Vanity Fair Mills with many years of service. She was a member of Abundant Life Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed the great family outings, especially “Red Lobster”. She enjoyed going to church, going to the beach, the mountains, and shopping.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Oliver Mathis, Sr. and Mary Helen Moore Mathis; husband, Charles Ware McDonald and one brother, Jerry Wayne Mathis.

Mrs. McDonald is survived by her one son, Michael Allen McDonald of Century; two brothers, James O. “Dooley” (Vivian) Mathis and Johnny Mathis, all of Century; four sisters, Mildred (Danny) Higdon of Flomaton, Ala., Evelyn (Bill) Cozart of Jay, Fla., Gayle (Chuck) Aldridge of Century and Kathy Mathis Simmons of Jay, Fla.; two grandchildren, Kendall McDonald, Traegan McDonald; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 22, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Abundant Life Assembly of God Church with Rev. Joey Johnson and Rev. Bill Cozart officiating. Burial will follow at Flomaton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, September 22, 2022 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Abundant Life Assembly of God Church.

Pallbearers will be Travis Johnson, Steve Stanton, Brian Conway and Jon Jon Bondurant.
