Mrs. Dorita Purifoy, age 69, of Atmore, Ala. passed away most recently.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August. 13, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church (Freemanville Comm.) with Rev. Cleitis Walker, Sr. – Eulogist and Elder Edgar McCarthy – Host Pastor. Inhumation will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Freddie Marshall Godwin   

Godwin

Mr. Freddie Marshall Godwin, age 75, of Century, Fla., passed away Sunday, August 7, 2022.  He was born in Bratt, Fla. to the late Ewing Daniel “Slim” Godwin and Ada Davis Godwin.  He was a supervisor with Masland Carpets until he retired.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Brenda Lois Godwin and his siblings, Lamar Godwin, Arvez Godwin, Lynwood Godwin, Wynne Kelly, Denise Wright, Audeen Wiggins and Beverly Ryland.

Mr. Godwin is survived by his daughters, Brandy Godwin, Tonia (Tom) Presley and Sonia (Quint) Wilson; his sister, Sylvia Newman; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Noon at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel in Atmore, Ala. with Bro. Don Sanks officiating.  Interment will follow at Godwin Cemetery in Bratt.

Active pallbearers will be Lamont Godwin, Quint Wilson, Tom Presley, Tim Ramer, Patrick Wilson and River Ramer.

Honorary pallbearers will be Anthony Rolin, Randy Dorriety, Johnnie Hadley, Carlie Edwards, Bobby McCall and Louie Thrower.

The family will receive friends Saturday, August 13, 2022 from 11a.m. until service time at Noon at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

David Allen Flowers

Mr. David Allen Flowers, age 59, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2022 in Mobile, Ala. He was born in Atmore, Ala. and resided in Nokomis, Fla. most of his life. He enjoyed fishing and drag racing. He was a people person and never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Rutheda Guise Flowers and one sister, Linda Ann Drasko.
Mr. Flowers is survived by his one son, Jeffery Allen Flowers of Loxley, Ala.; three brothers, Danny (Linda) Flowers of Bratt, Fla., Ernest Lee Flowers of Ark., Timothy Randy (Denise) Flowers of Silverhill, Ala.; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Friday, August 12, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC. with Rev. Cary Cubitt officiating. Burial will follow at Antioch Cemetery.

Alton Jackson “A.J.” Edwards  

Mr. Alton Jackson, A.J. Edwards, age 78, of Bratt, Fla., passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at his home. He was a graduate of Ernest Ward High School and earned an associate’s degree from Faulkner State Community College. He was a veteran of the US Airforce and served in Vietnam. In 1969, A.J. opened A.J. Edwards Roofing CO and was owner and operator for 52 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bratt. He enjoyed panning for gold and it was something he shared with his grandkids. He was a storyteller and could be found talking with friends and drinking coffee at many locations in Atmore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Jackson Edwards and Lizzie Godwin Edwards; siblings, Alfred Edwards and James Edwards, Sharon Zettlemoyer, Marilyn Branch and son-in-law Ray Hodgins.
Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife of more than fifty-seven years, Willie Jean Gilman Edwards; brothers, Carlton Edwards and Bernie (Debora) Edwards; children, Cindy Hodgins, Tracy Edwards, Della Rydzowski and Wade (Brandi) Edwards; grandchildren, Steven Rydzowski, Ally Edwards, Alyse (Ben) Idell, Taylor Hodgins, Braxton Edwards, Kaylee Hodgins, Bradi Edwards, Jackson Edwards, Nathan Hodgins, Macy Edwards, and Shelby and Sarah Rydzowski.
Funeral services will be conducted at Petty Eastside Chapel, Atmore, Ala. Saturday, August 13, 2022. The viewing will be at 10 a.m. and services at 11a.m. with Pastor Jim Stickle officiating. Graveside service will follow at Godwin Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Taylor Hodgins, Braxton Edwards, Jackson Edwards, Nathan Hodgins, Ben Idell, and Cary Jordan Edwards.

Ms. Maebell Staples, age 92, of Atmore, Ala. (Poarch Community), passed away Monday, August 15, 2022 at her residence.

Robert Carl “Bobby” Morgan

Mr. Robert Carl “Bobby” Morgan, age 68, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022 in Atmore, Ala. He was born in Dalton Ga. and resided in Hilham, Tenn. before moving to Atmore for the past year. He was self-employed as an iron worker for many years. He valued his time he spent with his family, picking and grinning. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing at church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Earl Morgan, Sr. and Sarah Catherine Jones Morgan; two brothers, Earl Morgan, Jr. and Everette Brian Morgan.
Mr. Morgan is survived by his loving wife of twenty-two years, Linda Morgan of Atmore; one step-son, Allan Johnson of Cookeville, TN; two brothers, Jesse Tommy (Joann) Morgan of Sweetwater, Tenn. and David (Katrina) Morgan of Rossville, Ga.; two sisters, Shelia Christine Morgan (Gary) Baker of Goose Creek, S.C. and Brenda Denise Morgan Smith of Trion, GA; one step-grandchild, Kalynn Marie Johnson of Atmore; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Anthony “Todd” Sanspree

Mr. Anthony “Todd” Sanspree, age 56, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022 in Bay Minette, Ala. He was a lifelong resident of Atmore, Ala. He enjoyed tending to his cows, fishing, hunting and drag racing. He enjoyed “Auburn Football” and the Kentucky Derby Horse Racing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harrison Sanspree; grandmother, Luverta “Roberta” Glass; grandparents, Hosea and Annlee Sanspree.
Mr. Sanspree is survived by his mother, Jean Sanspree of Atmore; two sons, Cole (Paige) Sanspree of Bay Minette and Nick Sanspree of Atmore; two daughters, Breanna Sanspree  and Anna Claire Sanspree all of Atmore; one brother, Sandy Sanspree of Atmore; one sister Anna (Ben) Tingle of Perdido, Ala.; three nieces, Savannah Tingle, Santanna Tingle, Jessica Sanspree; six nephews, Brannon (Danielle) Sanspree, Tyler (Kaylee) Sanspree, Tanner Sanspree, Ben Tingle, Brayer Tingle, Caden Sanspree; numerous aunts, cousins, best friend, Michael Roley, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Canoe Baptist Church, with Rev. Michael Roley officiating. Burial will follow at Sardis Cemetery.

Mr. Derrick “Juicy” Johnson, age 32, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, August 13, 2022 at his residence.

Marquis “Mark” Antonio Burnette

Mr. Marquis “Mark” Antonio Burnette, age 36, of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Bay Minette, Ala. for many years, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022 in Dallas. He was born in Bay Minette to the late Sister Edith M. Burnette Thomas and Billy McCall, Sr. He was devoted to his family and friends making all who knew him smile with his charismatic charm and truth.

He was preceded in death by his mother; niece, Zaria Burnette; nephew, Trey Andres; grandparents, Johnnie and Louise Burnette and Willie and Ruth McCall; brothers, Thomas “Chuck” Brown and Antonio McCall.

Mr. Burnette is survived by his father, Billy McCall, Sr. of Bay Minette; sisters, Marie Burnette of Dallas, Rejoice (Bryan) Pleasant of Atmore, Ala. and Stephanie McCall of Mobile, Ala.; brothers, Nicholas Burnette of Mobile, Robert Burnette of Dallas, David (Erika) Thompson of Bay Minette, Billy McCall, Jr. and Galen McCall, both of Rochester, N.Y.; two step-brothers, Rodney McCall of Mobile and Timothy Thomas, Jr. of Bay Minette; twenty-two nephews; eleven nieces; five aunts and four uncles; host of cousins and friends; three devoted friends, Alvin Cooks, Michelle “Chelle” Robinson and Reginald Golden; brothers, Thomas “Chuck” Brown and Antonio McCall.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 12, 2022 at Healing Waters Church, Bay Minette with Pastor Richard Daniels officiating. Interment followed at 12700 Amelia Road, Bay Minette, Ala.

Pallbearers and flower bearers were his cousins and friends.

Charles Lee Jones

Pastor Charles Lee Jones, age 63, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2022. He was born in Atmore to the late Bufford and Lillie Bell Jones. He became a member of Ebenezer Luthern Church at an early age. He was a 1978 graduate of Escambia County High School. He obtained is Bachelor of Theology, Master of Divinity and Doctor of Divinity. He became a minister and began as the Youth Pastor of Greater Mt. Triumph Baptist Church. Later he served as Pastor of Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church in Perdue Hill, Ala. for seventeen years; Pastor of First Baptist Church of McCullough for eighteen years and Pastor of Macky Branch #2 of Whatley, Ala. serving for the last six years.

He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher “Shawn” Harris; his parents; brother, Beauford Jones and sister-in-law, Martha Harris.

Pastor Jones is survived by his wife, Glenda Jones; daughter, Cassandra (John) Rodgers of Birmingham, Ala; two grandsons who called him “Pop”, Carson and Jace Rodgers; brother, Albert Lee (Carla) Jones of Monroe, La.; sisters, Catherine Jones and Linda Faye Jones, both of Atmore; sister-in-law, Angela Jones of Fairhope, Ala.; father-in-law and mother-in-law Willie and Luverne Lawson of McCullough; brother-in-law, Earnest (Erica) Harris of Poarch, Ala.; brother-in-law, Willie Harris of McCullough; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, loved ones and special friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Noon at First Baptist Church of McCullough with Rev. James Murphy officiating. Interment followed in the First Baptist Church of McCullough Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his nephews.

Flower bearers were the ECHS Class of 1978.
