Billy Nathan Scott

Mr. Billy Nathan Scott, age 71, of Millard, Ala., passed away Friday, May 6, 2022.  He was born on in Uriah, Ala. to Jacob Miller and Lilly Mae Cooper Scott. He was a welder with Alabama Tank. He had the ability to give a new life to old possessions.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Danny Wayne Scott and Timothy Harold Scott; three siblings, Perry Scott, Velma Odom and Roberta Johnson.

Mr. Scott is survived by his wife, Connie Reed Scott; his sons, Tony (Stephanie) Tolbert of Booneville, Ala., Anthony Douglas of Birmingham, Ala. and Timothy Nathan Scott, who he raised like a son; his daughters, Ronda Kay Scott of Stockton, Ala., Marie (James) Grice of Atmore, Ala., Maria Hughes of McCullough, Ala., Charlene (Michael) Jeter of Uriah, Deloris George of Mobile, Ala. and Donna (Dan) Thompson of Tenn.; his brother, Wilmer (Jean) Scott of Bay Minette, Ala.; his sister, Annie Ruth Scott of Atmore and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 13, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel in Atmore with Bro. Cornelius Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Mamie’s Chapel Cemetery in Little River, Ala.

Active pallbearers will be Kody Stewart, Nate Scott, Dalton Tolbert, Ed Lietz, Mike Johnson and Mitch Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Overstreet, Wendell Powell, Jim Staff and Frank Odom.

The family will receive friends Friday, May 13, 2022 from 10 a.m. until service time 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Lena Daniels Taylor

Taylor

Mrs. Lena Daniels Taylor, age 74, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022. She was born in Canoe, Ala. She was a 1967 graduate of Century High School and continued at Reid State Technical College. She loved her church family and friends and was active at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, where the whole family toured with the youth choir when the boys were young. She found joy working with children in church nurseries. She was a devoted mother and when she found out she was going to have a grandson, she exclaimed, “I’ve waited 65 years for this!” She was only 65 at the time.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Franklin and Virgie Lorena Faircloth Daniels; her husband, Donald Fredrick Taylor; her sister, Dora Grueneberg; and her brothers, Dover Daniels and Denver Daniels.

Mrs. Taylor is survived by her sons, Aaron Frederick (Robbyn) Taylor of Troy, Ala. and Travis Anson Taylor of Montgomery, Ala.; her sisters, Barbara (Jody) Posey of Bratt, Fla. and Clara Cobb of Atmore, Ala.; her grandson, Brooks Aaron Taylor and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 14, 2022 from 10 until 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel in Atmore. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Godwin Cemetery in Bratt.

Donald Jewel “Don” Melvin

Mr. Donald Jewel “Don” Melvin, age 59, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022.  He was born in Monroeville, Ala. to Daniel and Jewel Melvin.  He was a 1981 graduate of Escambia County High School. He owned and operated Atmore Plumbing for over twenty-seven years.  

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Melvin is survived by his wife, Rhonda Daw Melvin of Atmore; his son, Daniel Jason Melvin (Tiffany Jordan) of Atmore; his brother, Ricky Melvin of Atmore; his sister, Debbie Melvin of Atmore; his grandson, Timothy Melvin along with many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Monday, May 16, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery in Wawbeek, Ala. with Bro. Doug Frost officiating. Interment will follow in Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Frank Daw, Jacob Daw, Brian Toomey, Joshua Toomey and Joseph Toomey.

The family will receive friends Monday, May 16, 2022 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Tommy Darrell McCrory

McCrory

Mr. Tommy Darrell McCrory, age 60, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022 in Pensacola, Fla. He was born in Atmore.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Heathcock; his brother, Michael Woodrow McCrory; grandparents, Earl and Carlean Heathcock and Bill and Eugene Davison.

Mr. McCrory is survived by his mother, Alice Faye Heathcock of Atmore; two sisters, Teresa (Danny) Dabbs of Saucier, Miss. and Jeanne (Cecil) Corey of Poarch, Ala.; six nieces and nephews and his special companion, “BeBo”.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Steve Breceda officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore.

Pallbearers will be Don Finley, Danny Dabbs, Gary Gibson, Cecil Corey, Larry McDuffie and Adam Hadley.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Thomas Edward Short 

Mr. Thomas Edward Short, age 89, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022 in Bay Minette, Ala. He was born in Tuscaloosa, Ala. and resided most of his life in Dothan, Ala., living the past year in Bay Minette. He proudly served in the United States Army. He retired in 1994 with A & P Aviation as an Aircraft Inspector. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working with his cows over the years. He was very proud of his position he had the aviation center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil S. and Lillie Dickey Short; wife of seventy-one years, Anna (Russell) Short; one grandson, Nicholas Dale Short; one adopted daughter, Cathy Frith one brother and one sister.
Mr. Short is survived by his two sons, Dale Edward (Judy) Short, of Dothan; Randall Lee (Debra) Short, of Bay Minette; four grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Monday, May 16, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Vance, Ala. with Rev. Danny Avery officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Vance, AL.
In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church 20043 Pleasant Grove Rd. Vance, AL. 35490 in his honor.

Murray O’Neal Phillips

Mr. Murray O’Neal Phillips, age 68, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2022 in Mobile, Ala. He was born in Atmore, Ala. and a lifelong resident of Perdido, Ala. He was a welder for the Shipyard with many years of service. He loved to draw and ride motorcycles.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles David and Ruby Lee Bryars Phillips; eight siblings.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his one son, Christopher Phillips of Bay Minette, Ala.; one brother, Lynn Phillips of Flomaton, Ala.; one sister, Carmer Gene Lewis of Perdido; one sister-in-law, Thelma Phillips of Bay Minette; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Graveside service will be Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Bryars-McGill Cemetery with Rev. Hubert Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Bryars-McGill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mark Phillips, Forest Phillips, Ryan Phillips, Hubert Parker, and Jeff Thayer.

Mrs. Delia Wilson Petty, age 87, of Monroeville, Alabama passed away at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, Florida on Friday, May 13th, 2022.  She was born in Excel Alabama, but lived most of her live in Monroeville, AL.   Mrs. Petty retired from Vanity Fair Mills in Quality Control.

Mrs. Petty was preceded in death by her husband: Woodrow Petty, parents: Wesley Wilson and Mae Lancaster Wilson, and one brother: Harvey Wilson.  She is survived by one son: Greg (Anne) Petty of Atmore, AL, two daughters: Charlotte (John) Murphy of Goodway, AL and Sylvia Petty of Monroeville, AL, along with one brother:  Doug Wilson of Wildfork, AL, two sisters:  Lois McKinley of Pensacola, FL and Essie McKenzie of Monroeville, AL, two grandchildren- Mitchell Murphy and Tara Ramer, eight great grandchildren- Jordan Redditt, Raeven Ramer, River Ramer, Cale Ramer, Colt Ramer, Brooklyn Ramer, Guy Murphy and Luke Murphy. 

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 10-11:00 AM at Johnson Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be held at Johnson Funeral Home at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Bill Bodiford officiating.  Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Frisco City, Alabama.

Delia Wilson Petty

Mrs. Delia Wilson Petty, age 87, of Monroeville, Ala., passed away Friday, May 13, 2022 at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. She was born in Excel Ala. but lived most of her live in Monroeville, Ala. She retired from Vanity Fair Mills in Quality Control.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Petty; parents, Wesley Wilson and Mae Lancaster Wilson, and one brother, Harvey Wilson.
