Burnell English

Funeral service for Mr. Burnell English, age 61, of Boston, Mass., formerly of Walnut Hill, Fla. and Atmore, Ala., will be held Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Empowerment Tabernacle Christian Center with Rev. Sammie Moorer – Eulogist, Rev. Wayne Marshall – President, and Bishop Darryl North – Host Pastor. Interment will follow in Stallworth Cemetery..

Hurston Leo Kent

Rev. Hurston Leo Kent, age 85, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2022 at his home in Canoe, Ala. He was a lifelong resident of Atmore, Ala. He was part owner of NAPA of Atmore for many years. Leo was ordained in the ministry in 1998 and has pastored Little Rock Pentecostal Church since that time. He assisted in establishing the Escambia Academy School and served on the board for many years. He also operated Century Auto Parts from 1992 until 2004. He enjoyed riding horses, calf roping, and horseshows.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Aline Gohagin Kent; one daughter, Dana Kent; one grandson, Tra Odom.

Mr. Kent is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Verba Kent of Atmore; one daughter, Cheryl Kent (John) Browning of Atmore; one brother, Claude (Lanette) Kent of Atmore; one sister, Barbara (GW) Ford of Atmore; one grandson, Nick Johnson of Atmore; one great-granddaughter, McKenna Johnson, of Atmore; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 1, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC with Rev. Glenn Sullivan and Rev. Faron Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Little Rock Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Petty Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC.

Pallbearers will be Chad Kent, Wade Kent, Marty Kent, Danny Kent, Brian Ford, Michael Ford, and Kevin Ford.

Tyler Chase Ray Cloud

Mr. Tyler Chase Ray Cloud age 18 a resident of Vance, AL died April 21, 2022 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, AL. He was born May 28, 2003 in Demopolis, AL to Chris and Tiffany Ray. He joined the Cloud family at the age of three in Walnut Hill, FL. Chase was a vibrant child with a smile that would light up a room! In the classroom he has been described as one with a quick wit, competitive ways and a great sense of humor. His competitive ways carried over to the ball field. Although, he played several sports, his true passion was football. He and his dad, Ronnie would spend hours discussing play by play after every football game. They definitely shared a love of football. Tyler as he was known by many of his classmates was a true friend and one you could call on anytime to lift you up or help you out. To know Tyler Chase was to love him… He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by parents, Chris and Tiffany Ray and parents, Ronnie and Jessica Cloud; nine siblings, Amber (Brandon) Pierce, Ashton Ray, Destiny (Garrett) Shook, Carmyn Smith, Jessica (Trent) Freeman, Lauren (Griffin) Littlefield, Cameron Cloud, Alexia (Alex) Summerlin, and Austin Ford; grandparents, Chris and Sandra Ray, Dale and Brenda Rowland, Louise Lowry, and James and Karen Currier; he is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Phyllis Penton, Robert Lowry, and James Cloud.

Funeral services were held at Providence Baptist Church on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 5:00 pm with Rev. Jon Wiggins officiating. Burial followed at Providence Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Marlon Brown, Garrett Shook, Stone Presley, Chaston Helton, Caleb Davis, AJ Hasty, Logan Bryan, and Josh Spruill.

Mary Ann Spence

Mrs. Mary Ann Spence, age 81, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2022, peacefully at her home in Walnut Hill, Fla. She was born in Enon, Fla. and resided most of her life in Walnut Hill. She retired from Monsanto with many years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bratt. She valued her time she got to spend with her family, and especially watching her grandchildren play sports. She enjoyed going places and doing things as long as she was “Going” she was happy. She has always been known “As the Hat Lady”.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Joshua (Bessie Ward) McCullough, Ala.; husband, John William Spence; three brothers, Cecil McCullough, Johnny McCullough, Clarence McCullough, and one sister, Linda Martin.
Mrs. Spence is survived by her two sons, Scott (Sandy) Spence, of Walnut Hill and Kenneth “DJ” Spence, of Molino, Fla.; four daughters, Robin (Joey) McCall of Walnut Hill, Shannon (Chris) Kinley of McDavid, Fla., Kathryn (Barry) Sumrall, of Monroeville, Ala. and Regina (Brian) Simpson, of Pensacola, Fla.; three brothers, Robert (Janice) McCullough and Wayne (Joanne) McCullough, all of Enon and Ray McCullough, of Walnut Hill; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, LLC with Rev. Ray McCullough officiating. Burial will follow at Spence Cemetery.

Jewel S. Melvin 

Melvin

Ms. Jewel S. Melvin, age 83, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Saturday,April 30, 2022.  She was born in Eliska, Ala., to the late Luther and Ollie Mae Hayles Stafford. She was employed with Vanity Fair Corporation and the owner/operator of the Tiny Diner in Monroeville, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Gloria Stafford and Mary Nell Meitzler and her granddaughter, Tonya Jackson.

Ms. Melvin is survived by her sons, Rick (Lana) Melvin and Don (Rhonda) Melvin, all of Atmore; her daughter, Debbie Melvin of Atmore; her grandson, Jason Melvin and her great- grandchildren, Timothy Melvin and Brittany Gilbert.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore with Bro. Earl Harrison officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 4, 2022 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Curtis Lavonne Dorriety 

Mr. Curtis Lavonne Dorriety, age 85, of Chunchula, Ala., passed away Sunday, April 24, 2022.  He was born in Atmore, Ala. to James and Maggie Hall Dorriety. He served in the United States Army and was a heavy equipment diesel mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Jerry Dorriety and James Edward Dorriety.

Mr. Dorriety is survived by his daughters, Tonya (Michael) Nelson of Grand Bay, Ala., Teresa (Scott) Wall and Wanda (Ricky) Brown, both of Chunchula; his brothers, Charles Dorriety of Robinsonville, Ala., and Billy (Connie) Dorriety of Atmore; his sisters, Ersel (Roy) Brackin of Munson, Fla., Doris (James) Lewis of Milton, Fla., Betty Weaver of Booneville, Ala. and Elizabeth (George) Lundy of Semirah Springs, Ala. along with nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Thursday, April 28, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. at Huxford Baptist Church Cemetery in Huxford, Ala. with Chaplain Bob Barr officiating.

Active pallbearers were Daryl McDonald, Jr., Aaron Sweatt, Mark Watson, Jr., Parker McDonald, Daryl McDonald, III and Brad Sheffield.

Barbara Ann Blackwell

Mrs. Barbara Ann Blackwell, age 78, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022 in Atmore, Ala. She was a lifelong resident of Atmore. She retired from Masland Carpets with many years of service. She valued her time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and all her other family members She enjoyed shopping, coloring, cooking, listening to gospel music, and watching the game show network.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John (Lunette Sheets) Rutherford; husband, Otto Blackwell and one sister, Nancy Boutwell.

Mrs. Blackwell is survived by her two sons, Greg Blackwell and Pernell Blackwell, both of Atmore; one daughter, Rhonda (Wayne) Stringer, of Atmore; one sister, Minnie Skaggs, of Atmore; eight grandchildren, Hannah Blackwell, Wade Blackwell, Kielan, Lord, Chastity Lord Salter, Amber Blackwell, Brandon Moore, Brittany Singleton, Clay Stringer; fifteen great-grandchildren, Barrette Finny, Kinly Conway, Robbie Conway, Ty Conway, Kole Lord, Kamden Lord, Drake Robbins, Tori Robbins, Peyton Salter, Gage Bishop, Kason Bishop, Makyla Salter, Kylie Singleton, Ella Grace Moore, Brooklyn Salter, other relatives and friends.

O Z Riley

Riley

Mr. O Z Riley, age 87, of Atmore (Freemanville Community), Ala., passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Atmore Nursing Care Center. A native of Atmore, he worked in the pulpwood industry.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Earnestine Riley; two granddaughters, Kawana Johnson and Montine Williams.

Mr. Riley is survived by his four daughters, Celia (Carl) Staples, Brenda (Theodis) Williams, Thelma Riley and Rayet (Rodney) Johnson, all of Atmore; four sons, Anthony Riley, Andre (Bianca) Riley, Gregory Thames and Regory Thames, all of Atmore; three sisters, Minnie (Leroy) Williams, Dorothy House and Claudia Leslie, all of Atmore;  twenty-five grandchildren and thirty-five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Alfonzia Williams officiating.
