As Main Street Atmore and City of Atmore officials prepare for the upcoming grand opening of the nearly completed Boxcar / Parking Lot Project, they are looking for help in naming the CSX rail car that is the development’s focal point.
According to a flyer issued by MSA, the person whose suggested name is chosen will take home $100.
To enter the Name the Boxcar contest, fill out the Google form attached to the flyer on Main Street Atmore’s Facebook page, or bring your suggestion by Atmore City Hall. Entries must be received by the end of business on Monday, March 14.
The winner will be announced during the grand opening of the parking lot — located at the corner of Trammell and Ridgeley streets, just a block off Main Street — which will take place Saturday, March 19. The family event is set to begin at noon and will include “live music, snow cones and more,” according to the MSA flyer.
The lighted property will feature the boxcar, which has a covered stage attached, a grassy area for those who attend events staged from the boxcar and 30 parking spaces, including four for handicapped individuals.
Main Street Atmore Director Niki Bryan said late last year the parking lot-entertainment venue would also include interactive lawn games and would provide the “opportunity for an interactive space that brings people together and activates spaces with public use elements, such as seating areas or tables.”
Bryan also announced that MSA’s second annual Shamrock Shuffle, a 5K run-walk event, will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 19. The fundraiser, which requires a $25 entry fee, will begin at Heritage Park and end at The Publican.
To register for the shuffle, visit eventbrite.com or send a message to Main
Street Atmore’s Facebook page.
