Rosa Juliette Booker

Mrs. Rosa Juliette Booker, age 97, of Goodway, Ala., passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at her residence.  She was a member of Goodway Baptist Church and retired as the Postmaster of the Goodway Post Office. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gayron Booker and parents, J.J. Bell, Sr, and Rosa Lee Strength Bell. 

Mrs. Booker is survived by daughter, Glenda Prewett of Atmore, Ala.;  grandsons, Chad (Tonya) Prewett, Rusty (Mandy) Prewett and Travis (Susan) Prewett, great-grandchildren, Madison Prewett, Mallory Prewett, Mary Mykal Prewett, Ellie Prewett, Greer Prewett, Sims Prewett, Olivia Prewett, and Andrew Prewett. 

Graveside services will be held Friday, February 18, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Sowell Old Field Cemetery in Goodway with the Rev. Randy Davis officiating.

J.B. Johnson Jr.

Mr. J.B. Johnson Jr., age 65, of Century, Fla., passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022. He
retired from Georgia Pacific, working for more than 30 years as a high angle confined space rescuer.
He was preceded in death by his father, J.B. Johnson Sr.; mother, Vonnie Johnson; brother, Johnnie Johnson and sister, Rachiel Kelly.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his loving wife of more than forty-five years, Trudie Gilmore Johnson; son, Jeff Johnson (Becky Hadley); daughter, Sarah LeMesurier; son-in-law Desmond LeMesurier; daughter-in-the-Lord Tammy Jackson (Danny Jackson); brothers, Ollie Johnson (Donna), Joe Johnson (Mary), and Lewis Johnson (Wanda); grandson, Russell LeMesurier; granddaughter, Madison Merchant.  He also served as a volunteer Firefighter with Station 5 in Century, FL for 20+ years. He was a Rescuer as well as a Rescue Teacher. He considered it a privilege to teach the next generation about how to make a difference because he knew that life went way beyond his time on this earth. J.B. was also an Evangelist and if you knew him, then you knew something about his Jesus. J.B. had a smile that was contagious and his laughter was loud and would catch the attention of everyone in a room. He radiated the love of God and did what he could to bring a moment of joy to everyone’s day.

Funeral services were held Friday February 18, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Petty Eastside Chapel Funeral Home. Burial followed at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery/Crary Cemetery.

The pallbearers were Jeff Johnson, Joe Johnson, Ollie Johnson, Desmond LeMesurier, Darin Barrow, and Jay Ates.

Honorary pallbearers were Barnie Jones and Lewis Johnson. The family received friends Friday, February 18, 2022 between 11 a.m. and Noon

Don Ray Grant

Mr. Don Ray Grant, age 86, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022 in Pensacola, Fla. He was born in Atmore, Ala. and has resided most of his life in McDavid, Fla. He enjoyed boating and was owner of Century Marine for 46 years. He was a member of Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hope and Mamie Lou Kent Grant; three brothers, Winston Grant, Wendell “Tookie” Grant, Delano Grant, and one sister, Mabeth Avery and father-in-law, J.T. Wells.
Mr. Grant is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Faye Grant of McDavid; one son, Brian (Jodie) Grant of Atmore; one daughter, Alicia (John) Matlock of McDavid; sister-in-law, Charlotte “Dit” Grant, of Barnett Crossroads, Ala.; four sisters, Martha Peacock, of Atmore, AL; Dartha Turner and Judy (Leroy) Smith, all of Atmore and Glenda Faye Fields, of Barnett Crossroads, Ala.; six grandchildren, Grant, Evin Matlock, Byrson, Allison, Gracelynn, Emma Kate Grant, numerous, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Nathan Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Ray’s Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday, February 19, 2022, from 1p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Michael Cox, Michael Hagan, Josh Webb, Nick Driver, Kevin Diamond, and Jared Simpson. Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Gavin, and Danny Leonard.

Arnold Samuel Burkett

Mr. Arnold Samuel Burkett, age 77, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2022 in Pensacola, Fla. He retired with International Paper Company with many years of employment. He coached Little League Baseball for many years and attended Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church.

He was an avid fisherman and liked tinkering on most anything, both for himself along for everyone else.

He enjoyed planting his garden and sharing with others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, O. C. and Mildred Watts Burkett.

Mr. Burkett is survived by his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Joyce Burkett of Byrneville, Fla.; two sons, Craig (Kimberly) Burkett of Byrneville and Shane (April) Burkett of Jay, Fla.; three brothers, Terrell (Dianna) Burkett, Carmen Burkett, both of Byrneville and Daniel Burkett, of Pensacola; three sisters, Frances (Webb) Nall and Shyrell (David) Gehman, both of Atmore and Sonya (Daryl) Brantley, of Lennox, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Jonathan (Miranda) Burkett, David (Tommie) Burkett, Mary Catherine Lay, Hayden Burkett, Cason Burkett, Taylor Hendrix, Jase Burkett, Camden Burkett, six great-grandchildren, Conner Fowler, Cason Fowler, Adelynn Burkett, Oaklee Burkett, Bailey Campbell, Lane Campbell, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 20, 2022 at 3 p.m. at Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church with Rev. Tim Floyd and Rev. Eric Bryan officiating. Burial will follow at Beulah Chapel Cemetery.

Rosa Lee Lambeth

Mrs. Rosa Lee Lambeth, age 70, passed away Friday, February 18, 2022 in Atmore, Ala. She was born in Century, Fla.  and has resided most of her life in Flomaton, Ala. She was a member of Allen Smith Holiness Church. She retired with Vanity Fair Mills with many years of employment. She valued her time she had with her grandchildren and family. She was an avid Elvis Presley fan. She enjoyed fishing and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Nora Bell Gresham; six brothers, Claude “CB” Gresham, Eugene Gresham, William Gresham, Bobby Ray Gresham, Ronald Gresham, Donald Gresham, one sister, Mary “Sis” Portwood, and a son-in-law, Randall Moore.

Mrs. Lambeth is survived by her loving husband of fifty-four years, Larry Lambeth of Stanley Crossroads, Ala.; two daughters, Tammie (Steve) Bagwell, of Brewton, Ala., Kellie Moore, of Flomaton; one brother, Huey Gresham, of Monroeville, Ala.; three sisters, Marie Peebles, of Flomaton, Carolyn (Robert) Smith, of Byrneville, Fla. and Frances (Randy) Warren, of Kerrens, Texas; three grandchildren, Stephanie Bagwell, Maranda Moore, Russell Moore; two great-grandchildren, Bryant Lane and Wyatt Morris; numerous nieces, nephews other relatives, and friends.

Larry Elliott McGhee

McGhee

Mr. Larry Elliott McGhee, age 74, of Poarch, Ala. and formerly of Walnut Hill, Fla., passed away Friday, February 18, 2022, in Atmore, Ala. He was born in Atmore to the late Carl “Buster” and Atrebee Dees McGhee. He worked at many restaurants and flower shops in the Atmore area. He attended Brooks Memorial Baptist Church and was a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. He enjoyed cooking, baking and was a devoted Auburn fan. He also loved Christmas and arranging flowers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Stephen McGhee and Glenn Doyle McGhee, Sr.

He is survived by one sister, Sandra (LaRue) Chunn of Theodore, Ala.; four brothers, Gilbert (Mary) McGhee of Walnut Hill, Carl McGhee of Atmore, Robert McGhee of Saraland, Ala., and Harold (Lynna) McGhee of Atmore; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted caregivers, and many friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Ricky Robinson and Bro. Rowdy Boyte officiating. Interment will follow in Walnut Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Robbie Howard, Rodger Howard, Paul Howard, Ronald McGhee, Will McGhee and Kenneth Manning.

Honorary pallbearers will be Randy McGhee, Wayne McGhee, Wendell McGhee, Gene Henson, Ben Colbert, Dicky Colbert and Tommy Berthelot.

William Joseph “Bill” McMurphy, IV                   

Mr. William Joseph “Bill” McMurphy, IV, age 79, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2022, in Pensacola, Fla.  He was born in Atmore, Ala. where he resided his entire life.

A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore, Ala. with Bro. Paul LaSala officiating.

Jean Jones Webb

Webb

Mrs. Jean Jones Webb, age 98, of Wetumpka, Ala., formerly of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, February 18, 2022. She was born in Uriah, Ala., to Walter J. Jones and Ethel Mae Jones Taylor. Jean often remarked that she entered this world on a morning so bitterly cold, that her father had difficulty cranking the Model T Ford to fetch the doctor. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-seven years, Doug.

Mrs. Webb is survived by her sister, Abigail Jones Jackson; four children, Letha, Rick, Jean, and Pellar; six grandchildren, Brian Webb, Tyre Stuckey, Lee Stuckey, Britton Stuckey Sansone, Kathryn Therkelsen, and Miranda Therkelsen; five great-grandchildren, Dorian Webb, Rowan Webb, Violet Webb, Adelyn Sansone, and Aubrey Sansone; fourteen nieces and nephews. 

In 1939 she and her family relocated to Atmore where she was a 1941 graduate of Escambia County High School. She and Doug were married while he was serving as a captain in the Army Air Corp during WWII. After the war, they both attended the University of Alabama where they became lifelong Bama fans, and she obtained a teaching degree, while Doug earned a law degree. She taught both in Brewton, Ala. and Flomaton, Ala. before joining the faculty at Ernest Ward High School in Walnut Hill, Fla. She finished her 40-year teaching career as an assistant principal. She also studied and obtained a master’s degree from the University of West Florida. She graduated Phi Kappa Phi. 

Jean Webb is remembered with deep devotion by virtually everyone who knew her; her children, grands, and great-grands consider her a profound and lasting blessing. With faith, intelligence, and grace she positively impacted the many lives she touched. Her love of teaching and literature inspired her in later life to become a writer. She wrote and published numerous books under the pen name J.J. Webb.

The family will celebrate a private memorial service on March 19, 2022 at the home of Rev. Robert Jackson in Prattville, Ala. Interment will be at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a foundation dedicated to inspiring a love of reading in young children by providing them books, a cause dear to Mrs. Webb.

Mr. Anderson Crenshaw of Philadelphia, Pa., formerly of Atmore, Ala., passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022 in Philadelphia.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Empowerment Tabernacle Christian Center- Atmore with Bishop Darryl North, Pastor, officiating. Inhumation will be in Mt. Shiloh Cemetery (Nokomis Community).

Mr. Gabriel Jackson of Atmore, Ala., passed away Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Covenant Hospice at Sacred Heart Hospital, Pensacola, Fla.
