Edward Clark Agerton

Mr. Edward Clark Agerton, age 85, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022 in Oak Grove, Fla. He was born in Oak Grove to Otis and Vera Melvin Agerton. He retired from the United States Air Force after serving twenty years and ten days. He worked with the Atmore Fire Department and the maintenance department of Century Hospital and Escambia County, Fla. where he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Lois Gibson and his daughter-in-law, Debbie Agerton.
Mr. Agerton is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Barbara Cumbee Agerton; his sons, Robert Agerton (Melinda Stokes) of Monroeville, Ala., James (Stacy) Agerton of Atmore, Ala. and Gene Agerton of Oak Grove; his grandchildren, Justice, Jadlyn, Tristan, Jameson, Ashley, Nick, Jordan and Mindy along with numerous great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Friday, February 4, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Cemetery with Bro. Wendell Bishop officiating.

Hubert Oneal “Bubba” Rolin
Mr. Hubert Oneal “Bubba” Rolin, age 53, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022 in Atmore, Ala. He was a lifelong resident of Atmore. He was a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. He was employed with David Morris Construction Company with several years of employment. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, grilling out, and Alabama Football……” Roll Tide”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert Lee Rolin and Bonnie Faye Rayborn Rolin and one sister, Sonya Howard.
Mr. Rolin is survived by his loving wife of seventeen years, Rhonda Rolin, of Atmore; one son, Brendon Rolin, of Atmore; one daughter, Kaitlin (Dillon) Rolin of Poarch, Ala.; three step-daughters, Brandi Lewis, Traci Boyington (Rickey Craft) and Kelli Boyington, all of Atmore; three brothers, Keith Rolin and Mike (Sherry) Rolin, all of Poarch and Timmy (Sophia) Rolin, of Citronelle, Ala.; one sister, Taffy (Ronnie) Lassiter, of McCullough, Ala.; eight grandchildren, Braylon, Kaden, Heavenli, Isaiah, Evan, Justin, Kelci, Jodeci; numerous, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Mildred Marie Hadley Hall
Mrs. Mildred Marie Hadley Hall, age 92, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, February 1, 2022. She was born to John William “Bill” Hadley Jr. and Venie Hadley of Perdido, Ala. She dedicated endless hours to the service of others and various local organizations around Walnut Hill, Fla. and Atmore, Ala. She wrote the Walnut Hill News for years for the Atmore Advance. She served as a Pink Lady for the Atmore Community Hospital. She loved and cherished her friends and her eyes gleamed when visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Alfred Bruce Hall Sr. of Oak Grove, Fla.; her twin brothers, Arion (Little Boy) Hadley and Marion (Big Boy) Hadley of Atmore; her sister, Mary Marie Byrd of Atmore and her grandson, Brandon Christopher Hall of Pensacola, Fla.
Mrs. Hall is survived by her son, Marion Mark (Debbie) Hall of Oak Grove; nine grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Noon at Oak Hill Cemetery with Bro. Ronald Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Katie Johns Cotton

Mrs. Katie Johns Cotton, age 84, of Huxford, Ala., passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022 in Foley, Ala. She was born in Evergreen, Ala. to James Warren Johns and Carlie Lee Robinson Johns. She was the former bookkeeper at Faith Chapel Funeral Home and Fisher-Pou Funeral Home in Pensacola, Fla. She owned and operated Merle Norman Cosmetics in Atmore at Trammel Square and Katie’s Lawn Service before retiring.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Cotton and her step-daughter, Vicky Lynn Bell.
Mrs. Cotton is survived by her daughter, Stephanie (Chris) Conway of Foley; her step-daughter, Carol (Glen) Dreadin of Huxford; six grandchildren, MAJ Benjamin Daniel (Ann Heathe), Russell O’Farrell, MAJ Steven O’Farrell (Raquel), Lee Cruit (Michelle), Les Cruit (Pam) and Allison Clark (Josh); twelve great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews along with her special dog, Puddin.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 7, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Peebles officiating. Interment will follow at Serenity Gardens in Atmore.

Vera Hanks Crocker
Mrs. Vera Hanks Crocker, age 100, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2022 in Mobile, Ala.
She was born in Bratt, Fla. She was employed with the Federal Civil Service at Brookley Field until they relocated to Warner Robins in Macon, Ga. At the time of her retirement she and her mother moved to Pensacola, Fla. and eventually built a home on family farm where they resided until their deaths.
She loved the outdoors, particularly gardening. Her love of travel took she and her mother on cross country trips to California and other places usually visiting relatives.
Vera was a great lover of the outdoors, particularly gardening, and was admired not only for her “green thumb”, but also for her ability to pursue such a strenuous hobby throughout her life, much to the amazement of friends and relatives.
She also loved to travel, and undertook several automobile trips around the United States, usually accompanied by her favorite travel companion, her mother. Their itineraries included cross-country trips to California and other distant places, usually to visit relatives. Another love of Vera’s was documenting her family history. She researched and compiled information on the Hanks families for five years, which involved reviewing many documents, such as the U.S. Census, Church records, and published historical accounts, as well as visiting relatives for oral histories. She completed her compilation in 1993, and it has become an invaluable resource to her family. Other hobbies included woodworking where she learned to build furniture and cabinets for her home, as well as ceramics and quilting. She also enjoyed writing poetry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Collin C. and Lydia Ledkins Hanks; her husband, S.E. Crocker; two sisters, (twin) Vira Hadley and Marqurite Holt.
Mrs. Crocker is survived by one sister, Louise Larker, of Long Beach, Calif. and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 6, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Odom officiating. Burial will follow at Godwin Cemetery.

Mr. John Jay Manis, age 74, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022 in Pensacola, Fla. He has resided most of his life in Pensacola. He served the Lord above all. He loved his wife and children. He served in the United States Navy, as a fighter pilot and an instructor in advanced jets. He was an accomplished writer and a well-respected Real Estate Broker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen (Gloria McNeil) Manis; one daughter, Tiffany Nicole Manis; one brother, Tom Manis and brother-in-law, Art Payne.
Mr. Manis is survived by his loving wife of fifty-one years, Betty Manis of Pensacola; one son, John Manis Jr; of Pensacola; two daughters, Tracie (Christopher) Garner, of Middleburg, Fla. and Tanya (Jonathan) Boudrie, of Gatlinburg, Tenn.; two brothers, Chuck (Wilene) Manis, of Ft. Mrs. Mary Frances Burkett, age 74, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022 in Atmore, Ala. She was born in Bay Minette, Ala. and has resided most of her life in Flomaton, Ala. She loved being at home, talking on the phone. She enjoyed her walks in the yard and going fishing. She was loved by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor (Rita Banks) Hinote; husband, Freddie “Sonny” Burkett; one sister, Dorothy Tillman; two brothers, Jack Hinote, Phillip Hinote, and mother-in-law, Mary Burkett.

Mr. James Hayward Formby, age 73, of Walnut Hill, Fla. passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022. He was born in Spring Garden, Ala. to the late Guy Hayward and Betty Jean Smith Formby. He graduated from Spring Garden High School in 1966, attended Georgia Tech, Gadsden State and graduated from Gadsden Business College. He was a member of Lozahatchee F & M #97, the Walnut Hill Ruritan Club, Walnut Hill Fire Department and Annie Jones United Methodist Church. Over the years, he was employed by First National Bank of Piedmont, Coca-Cola, Royster Fertilizer Co., Swift Fertilizer Co., Twin County Farm Service, West Florida Gin Co., Terra Industries, Alabama Farmers’ Cooperative, Escambia Grain Corp. and he owned and operated Center Farm Service, James H. Formby Trucking Co. and Mr. Transmission.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons-in-law, Joey Gill and Bruce Logan, and step-son Brandon Phillips.

Aaron Lee Hicks Sr., EL
Mr. Aaron Lee Hicks Sr., EL, age 51, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022 at D. W. McMillan Hospital, Brewton, Ala. He was born to the late Mary Ella Hicks in Orlando, Fla. He was a man about town, living each day to its fullest. Like anyone of us here, he had his faults. One fault led to the greatest change in his life on May 15, 2019. He gained his citizenship in the Moorish Science Community. He then lived in his faith seeking to help his family and friends any way he could. He came and Aliah he went.
Mr. Hicks is survived by three children, Khalab Goldsmith, Kha’Deisha Hicks and Aaron Hicks, Jr., all of Pensacola, Fla; one brother, Toray Hicks of Ellenwood, Ga.; one sister, Chrissy Taylor of Flomaton, Ala.; five grandchildren of Pensacola; one nephew of Flomaton and a host of family and friends.

Mr. Omar Brown, age 43, of Bay Minette, Ala., passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022 U.S.A. Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by one son, Johnathan Maxwell.
