Urgent care funding secured

Special to Atmore News

UB Community Development (UBCD), the community development arm of United Bank, announced that — in conjunction with National Community Impact Fund of Chicago — it has closed a $5.3 million New Markets Tax Credit transaction with Escambia County Alabama Community Hospitals.
The funding is for construction of Atmore Urgent Care Clinic.
Site work has begun on the new healthcare facility, which is located along Alabama Highway 21, near Interstate 65 and across from Wind Creek Casino and Hotel. The Urgent Care Clinic will feature a lab, x-ray equipment, a pharmacy and wellness care and will work in coordination with Atmore Community Hospital.
“Providing healthcare to the rural communities of Alabama is a vital undertaking, and a core mission of UBCD is to support healthcare providers,” said UBCD President and Chairman Alex Jones in a press release issued January 13.
The NMTC program, under which 39 percent of construction costs are recovered over a seven-year period, is designed to help fund small businesses and finance projects related to education, healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality, non-profits and community centers.
