Beverly Harris

Mrs. Beverly Harris, age 67, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022 peacefully at her home in Atmore, Ala. She has resided in Atmore all her life. She was a member of Atmore First Assembly of God Church for over 60 years where, she also worked in the nursery for over forty years. She enjoyed her many travels with the Celebrate Group she was involved with. She valued time spent with her family, and grandchildren, going to the mountains, and Disney World with them. She enjoyed fishing, and shopping.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Dewey (Margaret White) Barnhill; one son, Johnnie Wayne Harris Jr. and one brother, Keith Anthony Barnhill.

Mrs. Harris is survived by her loving husband of thirty-nine years, Wayne Harris, of Atmore; one son, Joshua Wayne (Ashley) Harris, of Atmore; one brother, Ronald Barnhill, of Atmore; three sisters, Cynthia (Danny) Wilson, Delores Peavy and Denean (Daniel) Workman, all of Atmore; two grandchildren, Allison Harris, Lilly Harris, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Atmore First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Don Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 12, 2022 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Chris Wilson, Craig Wilson, Daniel Harris, Riley Workman, Mark Harrell, and Travis Vickrey.

Edward Franklin Smith

Mr. Edward Franklin Smith, age 88, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022 in Bay Minette, Ala. He was born in Brewton, Ala. but has lived most of his life in Pensacola, Fla. He retired from truck driving years ago and he served in the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin David (Ella Lassiter) Smith.

Mr. Smith is survived by his six children; one sister, Hazel; four nephews, Logan Smith, Benjamin Smith, Sewell Smith, Paul Smith, and one niece, Bernadette Vardaman.

Funeral Service will be held Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC with Rev. Glenn Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Pollard Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Thursday, January 13, 2022 from 1:30 p.m. until service time at 2:30p.m.at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC.

Pallbearers will be Sewell Smith, Timothy Smith, Paul Smith, Grant Byrd, James Smith, and Lamar Byrd.

Nina Reeder Hall

Mrs. Nina Reeder Hall, age 83, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022 in Atmore, Ala. She was born and raised in Jay, Fla., but has lived most of her adult life in Atmore. She retired as an RN, and was an Antique dealer for many years. She enjoyed cooking, reading John Grisham books, watching her favorite TV show, CSI-Miami. She was an avid Auburn Football Fan and a Duke Basketball Fan. She loved going to Antique Auctions and making people laugh with witty jokes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Franklin (Litora Estele Nobles) Reeder; husband, Robert Clayton Hall; one son, Marvin Allen Williamson; one brother, Russell Scott Reeder, and one sister, Bernice Faye Reeder Woodall.
Mrs. Hall is survived by her one son, Thomas Edwards Williamson, of Pensacola, Fla.; one daughter, Shawanna (Tyrone) James, of Bay Minette, Ala.; three grandchildren, Tiara James, Ty’leaha James, Traegan James; sister-in-law, Linda Sue Cooper, of Atmore; numerous, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 14, 2022 at Noon at Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC with Sis. Helen Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Bay Springs Cemetery.

The family received friends Friday January 14, 2022, from 11 a.m. until service time at 12 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2022 at Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC.

Pallbearers will be Traegan James, Jason Hadley, Peyton Newsome, Allen Hall, Robbie Hall, and Terrence Newsome.

Etta Joanne Durbin

Ms. Etta Joanne Durbin, age 76, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022 in Atmore. She was born in Frisco City, Ala. and has resided most of her life in Atmore. She retired from Vanity Fair Mills where she had many tears of service there. She valued her time she spent with her family, friends and sharing good times with people overall. She loved playing golf, bowling and watching Alabama Football.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, the late Roy Haskell Griffey and Ima Gene (Simpson) Lane; two brothers, Roy Ladon Griffey and Roger Mackey Griffey.

Ms. Durbin is survived by her three sons, Mark (Marie) Harris and Todd Harris, both of Atmore and Terry (Sherry) Harris, of Excel, Ala.; two brothers, Teddy Wayne (Angela) Griffey and; Butch (Amy) Griffey, all of Mobile, Ala.; two sisters, Betty (Ellison) Hood, of Gulf Breeze, Fla. and Pamela Sue (Jerry) Brantley, of Atmore; twelve grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Memorial services were held Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC with Rev. Joe White officiating.

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 15, 2022 from Noon until service time at 1 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home LLC.

Peggy W. Hobbs

Mrs. Peggy W. Hobbs, age 70, of Atmore, Ala. passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022. She worked at the Board of Education as a secretary for many years.

She was is preceded in death by her parents,  A.C. and Carolyn Steele Wiggins; two brothers, Greg Wiggins and Michael Wiggins.

Mrs. Hobbs is survived by her husband, Freddie J. Hobbs of Atmore; one son, Jason Hobbs of Atmore; four sisters, Olivia W. Bryan, Jane Wiggins, Sue W. Sells, all of Atmore, and Beth W. Berry of Katie, Texas and a number of nieces and nephews.

At this time, there are no public services scheduled.

Johny Frost

Mr. Johny Frost, age 62, of Atmore, Ala., passed away Friday, January 14, 2022.  He was born in Bamberg, Germany to Jack and Gertraud Hartl Frost.  He was a truck driver with Billy Barnes Enterprises in Monroeville, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Mr. Frost  is survived by his wife of thirty six years, Terry Mack Frost; his sons, Brian Tuberville (Cheryl) of Atmore and Johnathan (Chancey) Frost of Perdido, Ala.; his daughter, Stacie (Anthony) Boyington of White House Fork, Ala.; his sisters, Claudia Frost of N.C., Joyce (Marty) Hadley and Patsy (Michael) Hadley, all of Perdido and Jackie (Burt) Jeffers of White House Fork; his grandchildren, Kirstin, Ty, Braidin, Ryder, Ryan, Ashleigh, Kyle, Christopher, Braleigh, Anna and Jacob; his great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Avery, Blakelee, Chason, Cole and Emry-Blayke along with his loyal friends, Bert Eichold, Samuel Eichold, Hamp Eichold, Tres Eichold, Buddy Stacey and Tony Stewart. 

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Shirley Jean Taylor

Mrs. Shirley Jean Taylor, age 79, of Brewton, Ala., passed away January 13, 2022 in Brewton. She was born in Atmore, Ala. to Chalmer Cola and Ida Mae Keith Henley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jake Calvin Taylor; her son, Calvin Ernest Taylor and her brother, Marvin Henley.

Mrs. Taylor is survived by her son, John David Taylor of Brewton; her daughters, Shelby Jean Caraway and Cynthia Jean Scruggs, both of Brewton and Myrtle Coleane Kulhman of Houston, Texas along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wilbert “Frank” Boggan

Mr. Wilbert “Frank” Boggan, age 78, of Atmore, Ala., passed away peacefully Saturday, January 12, 2022 at the North Mobile Nursing and Rehabilitatlon Center. He was born to Clemmon and Ruby Moorer Boggan in Forest Home, Ala. He accepted Christ as his personal Saviour at an early age and was united with Gaines Chapel AME Church under Reverend J.D. King. He attended high school in Cantonment, Fla. He apprenticed under Reverend Warren Shirts as a Master Carpenter and Cabinet Maker. Before starting his own business, he worked briefly with Frye and Sons Construction Company in Atmore as an interior finisher and cabinet maker. He later established his own construction company Boggan Construction. He was an entrepreneur at heart and trained and mentored many young men and women to carry on his legacy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Rubie M. McCants; daughter, Veronica Yvette Boggan Orange; sisters, Ethel Jennings, Alma Shoots; brothers, Johnny Mack and Willie Boggan and sister in law, Mary Louise Collier.

Mr. Boggan is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, Urla McCants Boggan; and a devoted son, Jeffrey (Catherine) Moore of Maryland and a devoted daughter, Alana Boggan of Montgomery, and two sons from a previous relationship, of Maryland ,Terry Norman and Richard Pleasant; ; his aunts, Beatrice Johnson, Vera Boggan and Ellen Pearl Shoemaker;

uncles, Jesse Moorer, Claude (Lena) Moorer; his sisters, Elizabeth Johnson, Mattie Boggan, Clara (Sam)Dubose and Debra Ann Peoples; his brother, Calvin (Maybelle) Boggan; brothers-in-law, David (Reglna) McCants, Strauter Collier, Lenell Shoots, and sister-in-law, Betty Bradley; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; special mention includes relatives; Katrina Frazler, Godson, Michael Curry, and his dear friends Reginald (Rita) Robinson, and Lorenzo (Ethel) Evans.

Honorary pallbearers will be Calvin Boggan, Michael Curry, C. J. Brown, Quendarius Boggan, Andrew Orange and Christian Moore.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Cleitus Walker, Pastor, Gaines Chapel AME Church, officiating.

Gary Lamar Henson

Mr. Gary Lamar Henson, age 71, of Satsuma, Fla., passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022. He was born in Jena, La. to the late Glenn and Thelma Henson. He was a self-employed ceramic tile setter for new home constructions. He was a member of the Poarch Creek Indians of Alabama. He loved to fish, hunt and gamble. 

Mr. Henson is survived by his life partner of thirty-two years, Debbie Henretty; his daughter, Michelle Leyva of Frostproof, Fla.; his son, Michael Henson of Milton, Fla.; his step-daughter, Greta Snyder of Satsuma; step-son, Michael Henretty of Atlanta, Ga,; sister, Glenda. Ellis of Frostproof; thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 22, 2022, from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. at Frostproof Church of God. Interment will be held at Silver Hill Cemetery.

Lorine Kelly Davis Elliott     

Mrs. Lorine Kelly Davis Elliott, age 86 of Bratt, Fla., passed away Friday, January 14, 2022. She was born to Ora and Vina Kelly, Much of her life was devoted to caring for others at the same time maintaining public jobs along the way. She was a dedicated lifetime member of Bratt Assembly of God Church, where she was happy to serve her community and witness for the Lord. She influenced everyone she met with her faith and love for Christ. Her wisdom and understanding were God given. Her motto was “I am blessed, I will bless you, now go bless somebody.” We were all blessed she was a part of our lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; numerous siblings, and husbands, Jasper Davis, and I.V. Elliott.
Mrs. Elliott is survived by one sister, Clara Franklin, of Dothan, Ala.; two brothers, Charles (Eloise) Kelly, of Dunn, N.C. and Sylvester (Wanda) Kelly, of Bay Minette, Ala.

Although she was never blessed with children of her own, it did not stop her from extending her love and wisdom to dear friends, Leslie and Susan Barnes, their children, Blake and Carrie Barnes, Trey and Linsay Rector, their children, Dustin, Sophia and Zander Rector, who all considered her their “Grandma”. She also leaves behind her friends and neighbors, Tony and Becky Wheeler, who enjoyed many hours of good conversations, fun road trips, and life lessons that will never be forgotten. Her red velvet cake will be missed by many.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at 12:30 p.m. at Bratt Assembly of God Church with her brother, Charles Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Godwin Cemetery. Immediately following services there will be a short prayer at the graveside at Bratt Godwin Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 19, 2022 from 11:30 a.m. until service time at 12:30 p.m. at Bratt Assembly of God Church.

Ms. Brenda Faye Hall, of Atmore, Ala., formerly of Brewton, Ala., passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Covenant Hospice at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. A native of Brewton, she attended school in Brewton.

The family will receive friends Friday, January 21, 2022 from 2 – 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Historic Second St. Siloam Baptist Church – Brewton with Rev. Richard Benjamin, Pastor, officiating.  Interment will follow in New Baptist Hill Cemetery- Brewton.
